I’ve family in Tennessee and a little over a decade ago they use to call in the middle of games to talk shite to my uncle.

Man it use to piss him off lol.

But now, you can’t beg that same bunch to even talk about football.

So I ask, can a team lose elite status after a loooooong period of suckage? And only having moderate success before that point anyways can’t help. Asking for my uncle.

What do you consider a blue blood?

They are still the second best all time sec program imo but just barely hanging on by a thread.

can A program be a blue blood forever even when they appear to be done with that particular sport?

It’s gotta stop at some point I would think.

Football is a dying sport due to all the safety concerns. My guess is we will finish up around 15-20th all time by the time they close up shop on the sport in a decade or so.

Pretty amazing we are still considered #2 in the SEC when we haven’t accomplished anything in 20 years and likely never will again.

Tennessee is likely never going to be good again so who cares how you classify it.

We are falling fast and the abolishment of the sport is likely the only thing that will stop the fall.

Damn, you’re too honest and no fun. If you’re trying to get me to feel sorry for you, it’s working.

When you make hires like us you dig your own grave. Just reality. Fans can hype up the former Saban assistant with AD experience, Big East multiple time co champion, another Saban assistant this time with defensive experience, etc. but these guys aren’t accomplishing anything in this league and everyone knows it.

It’s fun to get on here and have some fun but no Tennessee fan with a working brain has had any reasonable expectation for success since ~2004. I rarely go to the games anymore and certainly don’t get upset about losses.

Coaching searches are really the only time I have any hope but we are even worse at those than football.

UT is still a blue blood program. They have been done in by dumb hires, and AD’s that don’t give a frick about fall Saturday’s in the south. Now that ol’ Phil is running the show, they will be competing in the years to come!

As far as the conference goes, yes, they are still a SEC blue blood. College football as a whole? No, there are only a handful of Blue Bloods in CFB and Bama is the only one from our conference.

How are you judging "blue bloods"?NC's?All time wins?

Obviously put Bama,USC,OSU,OU and ND...not sure about
Michigan even though they lead in all time wins.

UT has never really been a "blue blood" nationally, unless you want to say there's abotu 10 of them, which seems high.

But as mentioned they are still IMO the 2nd best SEC program, which speaks volumes about the program they used to be compared to now. And honestly, it's only a matter of time before they get lapped. The grouping of UGA/UF/LSU/AU are all neck and neck with each other, and honestly an impartial observer could make a case for each of those 4 schools being the next up and would have a valid argument. The thing is those schools are on relatively solid footing while UT has been basically a lost program for going on 10 years now with no real sure sign of turning things around.

Going on 10? The program has been dead since 01 with the only sign of life being 04.

Hell, division titles are extremely close to meaningless and Tennessee doesn’t even have one of those since 07.

It is a dead program.

In terms of nationally, they never were. There is only one SEC team per major sport that can be considered a national blue blood.

In the SEC, I would say that they still are a blue blood like Nebraska would be in the Big 12 if they were still there.
