Solid B- Aggie thread.
And the answer:

Hopefully we get to see Maalik Murphy in all the garbage time we are going to have.

OU qb Dillion Gabriel actually had better stats than he did and wasn’t selected as preseason all Big 12 … he’s got a lot of hype for doing nothing …. Go back and look how bad he was vs OSU …. Not good

You don't understand the Austin hype machine or the average hornfan mentality. Horns have never lost an offseason.
Horns fan here. I haven’t bought into the Ewers, Sark or Manning hype. It’s obvious ESPN needs Texas to be a “brand” for ratings, but we’re a middling SEC program based on our commitment to football. Hoping that changes next year, but not holding my breath.

“I agree that he looked good against Alabama “
Every qb that played Bama last year.
Hell, we made Robbie Ashford look competent.
To answer the question. He isn’t as good as he looked against Bama.

This is taking a bit far.
Although Bama's defense may have been down by Bama standards, it was still a good defense.

He looked good against a Pete Golding defense. So did LSU and Tennessee. Which explains Golding's ignominious finish at the Capstone.
The defense that was ranked 17th against the pass, 13th in total defense and 9th in scoring defense?
Who is going to be Saban's scapegoat after this season?

How was he against OU?

Last season was his first action since his Jr year of High School. 2nd year under Sark usually shows big improvements. He'll be very good this season. Just a prediction

Ewers shite the bed vs Okie State & TCU @ epic levels, otherwise solid the entire year and closed out very well vs Washington despite some epic drops on long TD's.
He's gonna be good if not great. Edge rusher, LB & Sark's game day coaching are the Texas concerns.

His footwork and throwing motion is bad and unless those are fixed he’ll remain inconsistent. He regularly throws off his back foot and the throwing motion is just too much from the side.
Footwork was atrocious, kinda shocking given the resources he's had to work with since the 8th grade.
I'm ok with him arm angles.. if the footwork has made big upgrades.

He is better than his stats show. I expect him to have a big season.

Ewers has a great arm - and plays more like a Brett Favre. Meaning he can wow you with impressive throws and then throw a bad pick…

The jury is still out on Ewers. He looked great against Bama until he got hurt. He lit up a bad OU defense like a Christmas tree. He also had a lot of average to poor games. Along with lingering effects of the injury from the Bama game, right when he started to get healthy, he had a finger injury from having his hand slammed in a door (God only knows how this happens). That bothered him for several games.
Ewers appears to have grown up a bit and is more focused. QBs usually make their biggest leap from year 1 to year 2. We'll see how he does. If he plays substandard ball, Texas has 2 elite guys ready to step in to the mix.

I expect him to lead them to an above average season for them, so 6 wins

Ewers has PTSD from Turner planting his arse in the turf. Round 2 coming.
