UGA should be fine as long as they don't have a player admit to getting paid during his first draft day interview.

Some coaches (Belichick, Saban and Smart, for example) look at more than pure physical athletic ability in player evaluations. Coaches who recruit morons suffer the consequences.

Then what did you call the rise of Alabama in 08' ?

I watched you get your arse kicked for 7 straight years and all of a sudden you are at the top. hmmm

But it isn't that far out of realm because all he did was keep all the Georgia 5*s in state and snatched snatched a couple out of state. Everyone has been saying Georgia is a sleeping monster and will rise again if you can get a recruiter to do just that.

Ding ding ding... For years, everyone was saying that Richt was underperforming because he wasn't able to keep elite talent home. Kirby does it and all of a sudden the only way it's possible is for rampant cheating.

Good to see shite doesn't change around here... it just recycles every couple of weeks.

Bama was on probation and hired Shula to get them through the probation years, of course Bama sucked during that stretch (even though they managed two 10 win seasons during that stretch.)

Nevertheless, Bama is one of the few true blue-bloods in this sport. Very much like UK or Duke in basketball, nobody is surprised when they hire a good coach and take off. Everybody in the nation knew as soon as Alabama hired Saban--a proven elite recruiter with a national title ring on his finger as a HC--that it was only a matter of time until he had Bama winning titles and recruiting at insane levels. Nobody was surprised by it because EVERYONE knew it was coming. Kirby was a nobody. He'd never been a head coach, and was mocked many times by UGA fans for living in Saban's shadow and being his puppet. Everyone knows Kirby or any other DC at Bama is running Saban's defense. He was a good recruiter and did a decent job calling what Saban told him to on defense. That's all he was, and all he had proven.

Nobody expected Kirby to do what he's done as quickly as he's done it. Much more similar to Chizik at AU or Freeze at OM than Saban at Bama. Really bad comparison.

UGA did. That's why there wasn't even a search process.

I'll translate your post into non-Bama fan speak:

"It's not weird that Bama made a big jump because I'm a Bama fan and we should get all the bestest players.

It's weird that Georgia did, nevermind that Georgia is the flagship school of one of the most talent rich states in the nation, with a former all-conference recruiting maniac alum as its new head coach. Also, that new coach's dad happens to be a famous HS coach in that state. Also, that coach spent 10 years recruiting that state as Alabama's DC.

Their last coach that everyone criticized for not locking down the state couldn't do it, so how could someone do better than that?"

Smart uga and bama fans knew Smart would be a badass recruiter, and they were right. Sorry you aren't smart, which was already proven earlier ITT when the concept of a "trend" went over your head.

UGA took a massive gamble, much like AU did a few years ago with Chizik and OM did with Freeze. It worked out for them in the short-term too, but didn't end well. We'll see what happens with chubby Kirby at UGA in the years ahead. At the end of the day, he still has zero natties, and Saban ripping his heart out in OT was a thing of beauty. Looking forward to another Saban/Kirby match-up in December.

The recruiting part was anything but a gamble, which is what we're talking about here. Most people just didn't understand why it was such an ideal recruiting fit.

Yep. Take care of business on the home front and go after elite prospects in states and regions without significant local powers. Pretty solid model.

It really is amazing how fricking naive other teams' fans are in the conference about Alabama. Because we compete with them in the same state we've been wise to their ways for decades.

Part of Saban taking the job at Bama was that knew that his a-hole buddy Mark Emmert would ascend to the NCAA presidency. He knew Bama had the resources, history, and desire to dominate And he knew that Emmert would provide him the air cover needed for the time it would take to build a dynasty. Couple that with the fact that Derrick Crawford, Bama grad and son of one of the founding members of the REC, was Director of Enforcement for the NCAA, and you have a recipe for what happened in Tuscaloosa.

This is the crux of the bullshite.

Richt was mocked for not being able to lock down the state.

Kirby locks down the state, must be cheating.

Two because of Pittman, two because of RB U, and one because of Fields/Beamer (who ended up going to OU).
