Still remember being late to my biology class sitting in the parking garage on campus listening to his announcement on Finebaum. Knew the odds were like 3% but still had to do it.

Tebow leads Alabama to a 10-win season in 2006, meaning Shula likely stays.
Cam Newton stays at Florida.
Percy Harvin likely ends up at USC.
Ohio State probably never gets Meyer either (if you want to throw in a 5th school that was impacted)

Tebow was going to Florida period.
Even with Tebow, Alabama is not 10-0 in 2006. Too many schollie restrictions. Team was no good no matter who was playing or coaching. It amazes me that people forget how bad the schollie reductions were. Tebow may have made a difference in one game.
One of the biggest reliefs was Richrod not taking the job. He was not a fit, we wouldn't have won, his style wouldn't have worked in the SEC and he was a horrible recruiter. Him saying no opened the door again for Saban who was now willing to listen. Richrod was Mike Leach, who would also be a failure in the SEC. You HAVE to play defense to win it all. You can win games with an air raid offense but when it counts defense wins championships. Richrod played zero defense. Richrod knew this and knew he would fail in the SEC. It's not by coincidence that he has skipped the SEC and went PAC 12. In 2007 he lost out because he couldn't stop friggin Pitt. Not that his QB was out but he couldn't stop Pitt from scoring with that high octane Dave Wandstedtt offense
He would have been gone in 2 years.

I have always contended that the biggest change in recent SEC trends was the 2009 loss by Tebow and Florida to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Had Florida won that game and followed it up with a 3rd National Championship in 4 years, what would that have changed in regard to what has happened since? Would Urban Meyer have stayed at UF? Would Cam Newton? What about Saban at Bama? Where would Ohio State be now? How would that have affected Auburn? This game had an affect on multiple National championships that followed and on multiple programs.

I don't think Cam Newton was on that team in 09. Pretty sure he was in JC.

I remember watching that game like a fat kid watching a cake being made... Twas beautiful watching Thug U being humbled and Tebow and his buddies cry on the sidelines. Urban pulling a Fred Sanford shortly thereafter was icing on that cake..

Did you watch the video?
Alabama lost three games specifically due to red zone woes.
Arkansas 24 - Alabama 23 (DOT) - 3 missed FGs in the red zone
Tennessee 16 - Alabama 13 - settled for FGs from the 7 and 1 yard line
Mississippi State 24 - Alabama 16. 4 Red Zone trips (two within 2 yards of the end zone, and one that ended on the 8), 9 total points.
Also, Auburn - 3 fumbles and 1 pick by JPW. AU won by 7 points.
No one said they were "10-0" (not sure how we accomplish that in a 12 game regular season), but Alabama finished 6-7. Presuming we win ONLY the three games with the red zone issues, then we're 9-3 going into the bowl game.
Even the game against Okie State (lost by 3), Alabama had a drive stall as close to the 7.
It's not beyond the scope of possibility that Alabama finishes with 10 wins.

You are correct, Cam left after the 2008 season so the 2009 SEC championship probably would have affected him.

If he had landed Tebow, I think there’s a good chance Shula is retained even if we had the same 6-7 record in 2006. It might’ve bought him some goodwill about the future of the program.
Still though, it’s crazy how Tebow’s decision had a butterfly effect on college football.

This is true... straight from Saban's mouth. Saban called the doctor who did both of their surgeries and asked him what he thought. Doc told him to pick Brees because he has a better work ethic. Saban took Dante and the rest is history.
Met the doc (James Andrews) and he said Saban called him and told him he's the reason Saban is at Bama and he should've listened to him
