Down the stretch we had a very physical game with Mississippi State. No offense but a hell of a defense with NFL caliber players that you have to prepare for. Going on the road to LSU ? You have to at least practice for them don't you think?
The Auburn game was tight for a half. It's a rivalry game. Then we were in a war with UGA in a game we could have lost and we have to pay attention to Oklafreakinghoma before we ever get to Clemson.
Now tell ME who Clemson had to worry about. I'll wait.

Also, Clemson made plays in the red zone to stone us - and that was super impressive. However, this narrative that they shut us down offensively is kind of Monday Morning quarterbacking.
We had 443 yards of total offense. We threw for 295 yards. And almost all of that was in the first 3 qtrs while the game was in reach.
- At the end of the 1st qtr Alabama had 219 yards of total offense.
- At halftime Alabama had 265 yards of total offense.
- At the end of the 3rd Alabama had 421 yards of total offense.
Clemson made plays in the red zone and that's what turned the game on it's head. Alabama got into the red zone 4 times and scored 3 points.
Alabama's offense struggled much more against Mississippi State than it did against Clemson.

We forgot we had number 8 when we got to the Red Zone. Had we not forgotten that the game would have been much closer, because they never stopped Jacobs in short yardage all night long.

I mean it is what it is and Clemson did a great job, but they didn't shut down our offense. They made plays and out-schemed/played us in the red zone, and that is all that matters, but we moved the ball up and down the field for 3 quarters. We had much bigger problems OVERALL offensively against Mississippi State and Georgia, even LSU to an extent until we broke them in the 2nd half.

So? You had to chase that waterbug QB all over the field all night long and cover those receivers while doing it, and that presents a whole different set of problems from what we were used to seeing.
You don't know much about football, do you boy?

Who was Bama's real scare?
Real scare? Probably UGA
But Bama still had to prep and plan for MSU (full of NFL players), LSU in Baton Rouge vs Aranda's D, AU's great Dline vs Steele's D, UGA in the SECCG vs Kirby's D, and Oklahoma in the semi's.

He threw for 300 yards and put up the 4th best QB Rating that Clemson gave up all season - and one of those was Georgia Tech throwing 9 passes.
Tua had worse QB Ratings vs Georgia (118.42), Mississippi St (118.48) and LSU (129.47) (!!!LSU!!!!) than against Clemson (137.16).
So, again, Clemson's defense made plays in the red zone - but we struggled overall offensively against other teams much more than we did with them.

Anywho - your comment mentioned playing physical teams late. No question Notre Dame was a much more physical team than Oklahoma.
So wouldn't you say Clemson had to overcome a greater challenge when looking at recovery from physical opponents.

Clemson had a month and a half to get ready too
A month and a half? Clemson started gameplanning for Bama in October. After they escaped A&M and Syracuse (9/29), they knew they had no one else on their schedule to even remotely worry about. They played 2 "ranked" teams NC State and Boston College, neither of the two should've been ranked and their conference "championship" was against 7-5 Pitt. Same thing for 2019. They play absolutely nobody - they will start the season tracking Bama for the playoffs and adjust if needed.

Nevermind, it's obvious now the only reason we beat Alabama 44-16 was the other teams that y'all had to play during the regular season
And don't forget, The Citadel game was tight for a half. I know that game probably wore y'all down too

Actually, their 4 studs on the DL, Wilkins, Austin Bryant, Dexter Lawrence and Clelin Ferrell) only accounted for about 18.5% of their total tackles from last year. They represent about 37% of their lost tackles from the 2018 season. But more important that total tackles, they ate up blocks and allowed their LB's and Safety's to make plays.
They do return their top tackler, Isaiah Simmons who had close to 90 tackles last year. But without the big guys up front slowing people down, what's going to happen.
Their projected starting 4 on the D line only had 87 tackles last year, with 1 guy (Xaiver Thomas) getting 40% of those.
