Unless Alabama's secondary is drastically better than they were last year then they're going to get shredded again if they play Clemson.

Savion Smith is not on the team anymore, so yes Alabama's secondary is drastically better.

On any given Saturday, anybody can be beat. Doesn’t happen very often to Bama, but nobody’s invincible. Get your mouth bloodied and get back up.

2 of the GOOD teams you mentioned:

State - 5 losses (bowl loss to Iowa)

Auburn - 5 losses (loss to Tennessee)

This is dumb. You only look at losses but you ignore the extremely more difficult SoS behind them.

Smart people use advanced stats like S&P.

S&P Rankings

#7 Auburn [#19 Offense, #6 Defense]
#8 Miss St [#32 Offense, #1 Defense]

Also of note:

#5 LSU [#30 offense, #5 Defense]

Clemson's toughest regular season opponent:

#11 Texas A&M [#10 offense, #21 Defense ]
2nd toughest:
#20 South Carolina [#21 Offense, #40 Defense ]

Clemson's semi opponent:
#13 Notre Dame [#33 Offense, #10 Defense]

Clemson's toughest conference opponent:
#35 NC State [#29 Offense, #54 Defense ]

Clemson's conference championship opponent:
#61 Pitt [#71 Offense, #53 Defense]

I was waiting for someone to slap that squat to piss lad with that. When you play real teams as opposed to cupcakes you tend to lose a few more. But it's hard to argue with a 12 year old like him. He has less than a year to be here anyway.

ACC....Another Cupcake Coming....each week on that schedule.

The same Tennessee team that lost to Big 12 WVU by 30 and Vanderbilt by 25.

S&P is built around the transitive property...

(And the S&P had Alabama #1, Georgia #2, and Clemson #3 AFTER 44-16...)

Nothing you can say builds up the A freaking CEE freaking CEE. There's no defending it.

Would Dabo trade schedules with Bama this season? No. No WAY he wants LSU , a trip to Auburn, College Station and if he got by that a match with UGA just to get to the playoffs.

He might not get there at all, while Bama would set records playing Clemson's cupcakes.

I usually ignore stupid comments but this is one of the stupidest ever. Clemson had a month to plan for their first Playoff game, and probably had the game plan ready in about 10 days, and tweaked it as they saw any injury reports.. The rest of the time they looked at the other two possible opponents and game-planned for them. Then, after the first playoff game was over they fine-tuned their plan for Bama.

No they didn't - and I don't know how many fans on here I have heard that keep spouting that garbage. They did the same thing they have done the past five years for every big bowl game. The first couple of weeks they work on self-improvement/self-scouting. The last week and a half they game plan for their opponent.

I am sure they have a couple GAs or additional staff that spend the entire 4 weeks breaking down film for both future opponents. And I am sure Alabama does the same exact thing - probably even more so.

Bama has actually had a huge advantage schematically/prep wise. Clemson's coordinators haven't changed for three years, and Bama had faced them three times. They have the book on Clemson. Meanwhile Clemson's coordinators and staffs are facing a completely different staff EVERY YEAR.

S&P had Bama favored because it couldn’t factor in the injuries that changed Bamas D and the fact that Tua was a complete question mark due to injuries after the UGA game.

Secondary was a mess. It had been gutted with departures to the NFL the prior year and Thompson was a hollowed out shell of his all-American level self due to his lower leg issues at safety. Trevon Diggs was out at DB forcing us to leave Savion Smith on the field for what was arguably the most embarrassing 60 minutes for any player during the Saban era.

Jennings, Allen and Hall were all out for the year at OLB meaning the pass rush that on paper was a strength coming into the season was gone.

Clemson was a far better team that game, but as many of those injuries happened very late in the year, the data didn’t reflect where the team was that night, only what they had been earlier in the season at peak strength.

It was like looking at a hurricane that had been a cat 5, but had dropped down to a 3 before making landfall.

Clemson was without the #17 overall pick on their defense.

Clemson had success against him because they were one of the few teams in college football that had the front seven that could put pressure on him without bringing more people into the box. It's a credit to talent on the Clemson defense more so than them just knowing how to game plan against the Alabama offense. There's never been any secret on how to keep the Alabama offense in check. It's just been a matter of having the players to do it, which only a few teams have. Honestly, Miss State did as well as anyone last year against them. They just didn't have the offense to go along with it. For reference, Alabama had 443 yards of offense against Clemson and only 305 against State.
