In all seriousness, what this is showing us is you'll have to build it yourself.....

You can't just overhaul the whole thing with another hot coach and that guy live off of what someone else has built.

If Deboer can recruit at an extremely high level, he'll build it back and be fine. (This assumes he wins enough to keep the fans happy, tall order. But he'll definitely win a lot of games.)

What this may do is get ADs looking at staff and wondering if it's better to promote from within. If Harbaugh leaves, their best option may be Sherrone Moore if he's loved by the players and other coaches.

It's a potential kobyashi maru situation for ADs. Hire the best candidate. The one that, pre-portal could build a championship team, but in current times..loses the bulk of the team. Or keep the players choice (aka Mike Dubose) and keep the team, but you have a guy in over his head. The former is the better HC but may be starting do far behind ( especially since his rivals probably got several top players) that he can't catch up vs. Clappy with a talented team

Has DeBoer lost a game yet? Did I miss something? He may win big next year off what was already built…

In light of the OP, I’d say it’s more of a potential Mak-jang situation.

Agree to some extent but something has to be done about the timelines of the transfer portal. The problem became not that kids can transfer with a coach change but we just got out of transfer portal episode, your coach leaves, retires or is fired after a new 30 day window opens where it’s open season with NIL on your players then we go to spring and a new portal opens. That three portals in 4 months and the only team effected is the team that lost a coach. If a coaching change happens before spring why should there be a 30 day window when the portal will be opened again in April/May. It puts teams in a bad position trying to maintain a roster when you’re limited to only the team that the coach left from. This may work out some Washington has some good players but what if you’re taking a DC or Iv from another school. It’s open season in your players only.

You can if you hire someone who’s respected from said coaches coaching tree.
Ohio St lost almost no one when Urban “retired.”

That’s what he did at UW, not including Penix who was a transfer.

They hired their Sherrone Moore. That's exactly what I'm saying.

Apples and oranges here. If you don't understand you're gonna find out really quick.

Your coach waited until classes started to try to save the 24 class... it also puts you at a disadvantage because the portal opens for your players. There's a give and take.

Football is football. As long as he can withstand the pressure, he’ll put up 9 wins his first season.

If they hired Kiffin or Lanning, I don’t think any of this happens.

Sure some of the guys still leave but not like this

I think you're also going to see more schools focus on recruiting local talent. Kelly is starting to focus on it more. Whether there's a coaching change or not common sense dictates they are less likely to hit the portal.

Hiring within does nothing to preserve classes.

If you have a legendary head coach retire you're going to lose a lot of commits.

Nah. Local might save you one recruit here and there but the incentives are the same no matter what. Kids will bolt if they see a better opportunity elsewhere.

The days of loyalty are gone. These kids do not care about our schools.

You don't sound like a troll or some of our fans thet are bleeding out.

Auburn and Freeze have gone thru it, LSU has gone thru it, A&M .....

I'm OK showing up as an underdog. It's more fun.

I hope we can rebuild in a few years, stay competitive while doing so.
