I've never, and will never, fly a rebel flag. It was my high school's flag (they banned them my senior year) and I never sported it.

The southern states originally broke off because we were being misrepresented in Congress, and the Northern states basically ran the Gov't and bullied us. Slavery was a side issue.

I've lived in Chicago, virgina and WV, I see just as many rebel flags here as I have anywhere else. Except south Carolina. I have seen a lot in south Carolina.

The stereotyping from some here is amazing.

I'm still mad about the 2000 music city bowl, the only bowl we've lost in 20 years

You saw rebel flags...in Chicago?

I can understand them in Virginia and South Carolina. They were apart of the Confederacy. Chicago and West Virginia were not.

Also, it's not stereotyping to say it's ironic that they fly a flag that represented the Confederacy when they were in the Union.

I have seen people driving around in Milwaukee, CHicago, Victorville, CA in my travels either flying the rebel flag off the back of their trucks, or wearing it as a shirt.

true story.

Aunite, I'm talking about someone said they see them everywhere here. Very few and far between. And usually only in the extreme rural areas, and those people are idiots.

yet the south is the region that gets crucified by national media for it, as if southerners are the ONLY ones.

Those racist bastards!

and all this time, I thought it was only us, the toothless, mullet sporting, Southern rednecks that flew the rebel flag.

I've never been to West Virginia, so I have no idea how many are flying on a given day there. I just relayed what my ex told me. He was in West Virginia about three times a month for work.

I don't think anyone does blame the entire state of WV. That's a ridiculous attitude.

The point (I think) he's trying to drive home is that it is indeed a major embarrassment to them. WVU (and you know this) put forth a titanic effort in the PR dept going into this game. It is very unfortunate timing for something like this to take place, from that standpoint. WVU was looking at this event way past it just being a football game- it was their opportunity to showcase their program at a time when conference realignments are in full swing.

But- I totally agree that you simply cannot indict an entire fanbase based on the actions of a sorry few. That isn't fair. If that's what you are saying, I believe we all concur.

All I know is if I'm ever in a situation where I've pissed off an angry mob and being pulled from the car is about to happen, I'm stomping the gas pedal and mowing over anything and everything to GTFO of there.

I'll let the lawyers and Nancy Grace figure out what happens afterwards

let me tell you something - I lived in West Allis, WI for 9 months (a suburb of Milwaukee) and I saw more mullets and stone washed Jeans in that time - than I have in the last 5 years combined being back in Birmingham.

I hear you. In LA, attempting to illegally board one's occupied vehicle can be hazardous to one's health.

That's carjacking- a shootable offense in LA, FWIW.

No worries Dilrod. Exactly. Classic case of very innacurate demographic marketing research - stereotyping millions for the actions of literally a few - we have had to deal with it also.

they broke off because the rich plantation owners in Virginia, which included Northern Virgina and George Washington's Mt Vernon Plantation outside Alexandria. the rich plantation wanted Virginia to secede from the Union to protect slavery, which was their livelihood. the western mountainous part of the state (WVA) didn't benefit from slavery. btw, the KKK has its roots in Indiana and John Wilkes Booth was from Maryland, so folks outside of the Confederate State still supported the cause. the county I live in was the wealthiest county in the U.S. in 1860 and by the end of the war and the emancipation proclamation, it became one of the poorest. it lost all of its wealth w/ the stoke of a pen, which is what the south was fighting for.
