I'm leaning towards Lane on this particular issue

I'm simply putting myself in the shoes of a 2022 graduate who is being denied an opportunity that all others have now, will have in the future and did have in the years leading up to this bullshite. Why is Sanky drawing the line at this particular issue?
"We don't want pros in the SEC." That ship sailed long ago, and they are not NFL players if they don't make the team. This is no different than the Covid extra year bullshite, but this bullshite has an expiration date after this season.
Unfortunately, lawyers and judges don't have expiration dates, so I'm sure there'll be more courtroom drama down the road.

Sankey set the precedent by ignoring the NCAA and following the courts’ decisions for Pavia and Chambliss.

Yep. Sankey had a chance to get tough on this from the start and he failed to do so. Now it’s Pandora’s Box and he just got stuffed in a locker.

This whole 2022 class deal is the true problem behind all of the current drama. Why was this even considered to be where a hard line would drawn?

Because they’re lazy bureaucrats. Sprinkle a little saltiness because they spent years getting dunked on in court and you have the shite show we deal with now.

Here’s the part that gets me. At no point in history has: an undrafted guy with camp invite who gets cut without a practice squad invite been called “an NFL” player.
Only in 2026 with everyone clutching their peals.
It’s guys who got an extra year of eligibility after the fact and weren’t able to make a decision. At the time they had no choice but to try to make it in pro ball. These cut UDFAs were heading to UFL or Canada if not for the Colorado court order. But now, in clown world, they’re “former NFL players”.

I think he will still try to keep them from playing because of his inner conference transfer rule. Although had they know about the extra year, they could have stayed AND hit the portal.

Not to mention the NCAA could have easily waited a couple of months to make the 5 for 5 ruling and then none of this would have been an issue going into the season.
By making the 5 for 5 ruling a few weeks before the season it means they are either incredibly stupid or they wanted all of this mess to happen.

This is really a one time thing since 5 for 5 happened. A small select group of players that likely could / would have stayed another year.

Meh. I think they should draw the line. If you are going to allow the class of 2022, what about any player that has played and left with eligibility remaining? At some point a line has to be drawn. If I was in the class of 2021 and had eligibility left, and got cut by an NFL team I would sue to go back to college and get some NIL money. I mean some may not have been around for NIL, so why not quit selling insurance and try to get $1 million playing college sports for a year?

Since the 2026 season hadn’t started yet when the “5 for 5” ruling was made the 2022 guys still fell into that 5 year window of eligibility. That is the difference between this circumstance and those wild hypothetical circumstances you stated.
