Georgia Tech pulled out because the SEC refused to extend scholarships commitments to 4 years....you are dumb... or intentionally prevaricating

One of our worst coaches beat your hero twice in one season.

Maybe so. I am probably just an old fool, but I still believe it is possible to respect someone who you have disagreements with. I hated that Bryant beat us like a mule, but respected the man as a coach. Never saw the need to try and smear him personally.
Now people have to attack their character, it seems. It is not enough to be adversaries, they have to be evil.
I really hope this passes, because it is poison.

Wrong.
There is a difference between win at all costs & sociopathic corruption that extends far beyond the game.

Fine. I'll respect Urban Meyer when he becomes the Alabama coach after Saban retires.

Or even better, avoid a weak attempt to link Urban Meyer to Bear Bryant at all in a discussion.
I get that people like to troll, but this one was just tasteless.

Now I remember hearing he would drink like a fish, but hey the man lived hard.
It was also a different time when it came to football coaches and boozing it up. Or, for that matter, to anyone boozing it up, particularly guys.
Back in the 40s and 50s everyone drank and everyone smoked. As the saying goes, a man drank because that is what men do.
Bryant had the additional pressure of being a Southern icon. Saban will go down in history as being the greatest at winning national titles, but Bryant was an institution. Throughout the South it was God, Jesus, and Bear Bryant. Sometimes not in that exact order.
And to think... back in '42 Arkansas was set to make Bear Bryant our head coach but World War II started up. Instead we went through our worst stretch of football in the history of the program... until this latest debacle.

People act as they see their leaders act. Our beloved republic has become nothing but a gigantic exercise in smear campaigning from both sides. Don't agree with someone? Whatever you do, do not attempt to engage them regarding that issue. Instead, either toss a derogatory label at them, or try to associate them with something unsavory. Character assassination and name-calling is the entirety of our political discourse.

I miss the good ole days of drunken sex scandals being the most distasteful thing about politics.

Thanks man.
It just bothers me. I go to this board to enjoy reading other's thoughts on sports and occasionally to joke around with other fanbases.
I just don't get the point of tasteless posts like this. I know I should probably not respond, but I also feel crappy things like this need to be called out.
I will never understand the depths to which some people go to "trigger" another fanbase. Smearing a man who died decades ago is a pretty good example.

Bear Bryant didn't fake a heart attack and run off after Shug beat him twice in a row in 1969-1970, so there's that.

Only problem is Bear loved Alabama....UF was just a stepping stone for Urbs.

One reason Tech left the SEC because the SEC was the only conference that had scholarship limits. 140 total scholarships for football and basketball.

Yup.
This thread has little bit of everything that makes it terrible.
1. Disparaging a dead man.
2. Denigrating the poor.
Hope you have a good day Cyde! I am tapping out.

If Bear Bryant beat his wife, she probably needed it.
