Why the hell would per capita matter if you were locking down two states?

He said to leave Florida and Texas out. Those are too obvious

Georgia and Louisiana produce the most NFL talent per capita so conceivably you could fish in smaller ponds with a huge population of big fish. A team could win 9-10 games a season and not set foot outside the Metro Atlanta area. That school could also make the sweet 16 80% of the time just recruiting metro Atlanta for basketball.

Florida & Georgia is the correct answer.

Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida and South Carolina Carolina produce skill players but what they excel in producing is massive O and D lineman that are as quick and agile as tailbacks in Ohio, California and Texas. The latter 3 produce a lot of wrs and QBs especially but big fast linemen are scarcer outside the SE.

I think there is a variable to this question as well….where the school is located.
Yeah, you have to consider how the kids will fit in. Will they get culture shock, homesick, do they fit the style of play, etc. We know CA has more aggregate talent than Louisiana due to sheer volume of population, but are they going to mesh?

It wouldn’t be logical to do so because you’d limit resource expenditure to those 2 states which would arguably give you a competitive advantage. Per capita matters though when talking about where NFL talent is densest. Of course Texas, Florida and California produce more total because there are 94 million possible candidates in those 3 states. There are 11 million possible candidates in Georgia. Georgia and California are almost identical in actual numbers but Georgia has about 30% of the population of California. Per capita Georgia high school football produces more NFL talent than anyone with Louisiana coming pretty close.

This has been interesting, just had Grok crunch the stats on a per capita basis. Based on current NFL players, Georgia is #1 followed by Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and…Washington DC respectively.
Historically, Mississippi wins by a decent margin, followed by Nebraska, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and then Alabama.

I think it has to be Texas and Florida. Which is not to disparage the elite talent in California, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, or Ohio. Because unless you were up against the take your pick of Texas and Florida team you would contend for or win NCs with two or three of those in a given year. It's just a number issue. The number of great Texas and Florida players makes for a deeper roster than even say California and Ohio or Georgia and Louisiana

It's two of FL, CA, GA and TX
GA is probably 4th on that list just due to being 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 as big as the others.
But, I could foresee that in this hypo, picking GA given the proximity to the school you're recruiting for could make up for the gap in some minds.

I’ll take states that have real, competitive, knuckle-bleeding, drills in 100-degree heat, high school football.
Basically the south. If I can’t pick Texas and Florida (which would be my top two), I’ll take players from any of these states: Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, & Louisiana.

Louisiana and Georgia. Maybe Mississippi.
The sheer quality of talent from those three are crazy good.
Texas, Cali and Florida have quantity for sure and a lot of quality. But the boys from the south are hungrier.

Why is this some debate? The data is there where most NFL players are from.
Texas 304
Florida 287
California 278
Then you got Georgia at 221 and a big drop off after that to North Carolina at 105 and Louisiana at 102
Anyone who does say Texas and Florida or California is being a homer or can't do math.
FYI, those 3 also lead with the most QBs if you want to play that hand

Besides Texas and Florida?
Georgia and Cali
Georgia and Cali

This. If I were coach of Texas or A&M I'd start in the center and work my way out. And that's how it used to be, the two big dogs would eat first and take most of the top talent; Bama, LSU, OU would all come in and pluck a few (more than pluck for OU because 50% of their roster is from Texas). And then we'd pull a Ricky Williams from Oceanside, CA to round things out.
Now it seems like we're getting players from all over the place and my concern is culture fit. Growing up in Texas and the south in general is different than California or the north.
