Who cares about winning a Conference championship if you don’t make the playoffs, if another non-conference champion does? That’s a load of crap.

So, if 9-3 Stanford beats USC and wins the Pac 12, you think they would have a better argument for the CFP than 11-1 Bama?

It’s a balance issue.

That scenario is a problem, sure. But it will always exist as long as you have conference championships. I’m not arguing against your stance that Bama should be let in per se, I’m arguing that you also have to eliminate conference championships for that to be right.

If anything, conference championships are a penalty. Conf champions have to beat an additional elite team...and then get punished by having to beat another elite team a second time in the CFP that didn’t have to play the extra game..

I see what you're saying. However, I don't think you can eliminate conference title games without shrinking conferences. You can't count on declaring a champ with 14 teams and 8 games.

Yep. Penn State was robbed last year. I wander if they will ever go
To the 4 16 team super conf. With 8 team divisions and the winners of the conf championship play n the 4 team playoffs

Technically it would be 9 games, as you could add a conference game for each team the week of the current SECCG. In addition, everyone could get rid of one cupcake OOC and make it 10.

Tougher...but more fair, because it’s tougher on all conf teams, not just the two that currently have to play in the CCG.

Not exactly. NCAA rules limit teams to 12 regular season games. The SEC could go to a 9-3 model (even though it was already proposed by Bama, and went nowhere), but not a 9-4.

This has been beaten into the ground, but it still makes whoever says it deserve to be called an idiot.

You're an idiot

Most people agree. Would make the regular season count more.

I disagree. I think more teams would schedule cup cakes for out of conference games to avoid unjuries.

Beside division or conference championship doesn’t matter in any other sports leagues.

I agree. It needs to be a black letter rule but the PTB or the committee or whoever loves having that wiggle room or subjective factor to allow in certain teams.

Then they should just go to a 10-2. Still get 10 conf games. Revenue would increase as well.

What is the format of the College Football Playoff?

The format of the College Football Playoff is simple: the four best teams, two semifinals played in bowl games and a national championship game played in a different city every year, always on a Monday night.
...........................................................

This is as simple as it gets. There's NO requirements on conference/divisional championships....END OF CONVERSATION.

just because one team happened to lose one game to someone in conference doesn't mean they're not better than a team that lost two or three games, but won their conference.

This is rather false. We rushed for over 200 yards, and held Kerryon to 3.5 YPC. Auburn only outgained us by a total of 30 yards - even though they held the ball for 13 minutes longer. We had two running backs averaging over 7 YPC.

They beat us soundly overall, but we were not dominated on either side.

Does this mean our 06 basketball title is invalid since we didn't win the SEC?

Yeah the conference champ thing is a joke. The 2 best teams in the SEC may be in the west this year just in the Big 10 both may be in the division with OSU & PSU. The point is it is the best 4 teams which could be from the same conference, division, etc.

Someone already pointed out the main issue is how we determine who is the best with the so called top teams barely going head to head or have the same common opponent. Using conference champs is just a cop out.

The issue is the best teams on paper are always going to be the best teams on paper, whether the ball bounced wrong once or three times that year.

2010 Alabama was stacked, they are probably favored vs AU and UO post season that year. So why even play the games if it doesn't matter because the playoff criteria is "best" teams not most deserving. I think winning your league gives you the right to play for more

You could say similar about an OSU or a few others.

I don't like the human element, even though it's not really wrong in these cases. Of course Bama can play with an beat anyone in January whether they dropped 2 or even 3 this year. But it takes away from the sport IMO. I'm for expanding to include all 5 P5 champions, or going to 4 16 team conferences.
Win and you're in. Not: recruit, have history, and don't frick up too bad and you're in.
