They're studying. That's their part of the SEC bargain that keeps them in. The big boys win the hardware & bring in the money. Vandy keeps the GPA's up & collects the academic hardware.

Plus being a private university keeps the SEC from having to release a lot of info that would have to be released if all the members were public universities.

90% of state school fans never went to school there. Private school fans, for the most part, are people who actually attended the school. If you took out all the fans who never went to the school they are fans of, then fans of Bama, LSU, Ark, etc would dramatically drop. This is the reason you see very few Vandy fans compared to all the others.

We need more parity, and intelligence.

Vandy people don't hang out with the Riff-Raff...

Check out their Scout board some time, I thought GT fans were aloof & pretentious till I visited the VU site...

I went there but don't care about their sports programs. I can be a good fake fan sometimes though.

I am actually a Vandy grad. Yup. Columbia, Missouri born and raised into a family of diehard Mizzou fans and I was going to Mizzou games (home and road) since before I was old enough to know what town I was in. Was always gonna be a Mizzou Tiger fan for life. That didn't change when I got accepted to and attended Vandy for undergrad.

Fact is, Vandy at the time I was there almost took pride in not caring about sports (they merged/did away with their "athletic department" and just made it part of the school as a whole while I was there). So I never felt guilty about continuing to support my home state and hometown Mizzou Tigers first, foremost and always. If Vandy as an institution didn't care much about its sports, why should I? And there were plenty of kids there from SEC states that did the same thing - Georgia kids who rooted for UGA, Kentucky kids who kept rooting for UK, and so on.

That seems to have changed somewhat and Vandy is working more on crafting some semblance of school spirit which is good. But it has very little of it historically, coupled with just a small alumni base period.

You and the douche above you are part of the reason we don't have much school spirit. And the AD was folded into the division of student life for reasons much more complex than "not caring about sports."

David Williams fulfills the role of "AD" pretty well as Vice Chancellor without any need for a whole department. I have to say that he's done pretty well over the past few years. I've always been a Vandy baseball and basketball fan, but last season actually got me excited for football.

And we still have a better 2013 recruiting class than Tennessee.

Yup. Pres. Gee was no "Ivory Tower" anti-sports crusader. The AD was simply eating up a lot of money that could be spent on the actual teams. Things really have never looked better for Vandy on the sports front.

Try again Einstein. It's easy to be a fan of a winning team.

I don't see many vandy or mizzou posters.... Probably because they don't belong in the SEC

All of my friends/family who went to Vandy are Vandy fans AND fans of teams like Alabama. I've never met someone who was just for Vanderbilt.
