The ACC has indeed never had more leverage than now over Notre Dame, but the conference’s “leadership” has consistently shown they have no idea how to negotiate from a position of strength. ND will be given an unconditional pass to play a full slate of conference games, compete for the ACC championship, qualify for the ACC’s automatic berth in the Orange Bowl should they win the conference, and share in the ACC’s revenue. At the same time, they will preserve their NBC revenue -and when the season ends, will wink and wave ‘bye bye’ to the ACC.
I will be shocked if I’m wrong.
That's a damn shame, and if I were a fan of an ACC program I'd be pissed.
Notre Dame brings value, and would be a huge score for the conference. National brand name second to none, probably along the lines of the Yankees in baseball.

Right now, you (the ACC) have them by the balls, if you choose. I'd make them commit.

Love 'em or hate 'em, Notre Dame has been THE prized target since expansion began. Every P5 conference would take them tomorrow. They PROBABLY could have saved the Big East.

The ACC has a deal with them, and like I said, they'll never have more leverage than they do right now. It would take a set of balls to do it, but I'd push the issue. Time to piss or get off the pot.
If they could land the Irish, that would make 2020 a success for that conference.

Uhh, you don't tug on Superman's cape and you don't piss in the wind. They better not phuck with ND.

BYU has had FIVE games cancelled. Wonder who called who?

I'll give you a good hint.

"Utah State will take on Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on Sept. 3, 2022. The Aggies will receive a guarantee of $1,910,000 for playing the game, per the release."

Think BYU wouldn't want some of that?

But... they HAVE them right now.
You throw an ultimatum (in or out), and Notre Dame's options THIS YEAR would be to schedule the service academies (if they play), BYU, and whoever else is left. Big 10 and Pac 12 have already pulled the plug on non-conference, and that includes ND games.

Worst case scenario, ND balks and cuts ties with your conference. No sweat, the ACC survived before this weird affair started. But I really don't think Notre Dame would bail on them. I don't think they can put a viable schedule together this year without the ACC's backing, and I don't think they'd be willing to shut it down or play 4 games when other powers are going to play 10-12.

What makes me worried about it, is that maybe Notre Dame doesn't think 2020 is going to happen anyway, so in their minds it's all just talk.

It would be fricking weird if the major colleges play this fall, and some (Ivy, SWAC etc) play in the spring. I think you destroy most of the spring players' NFL hopes doing that.

Understand what you are saying but ND beats to a different drum. ND is the one team that could take their ball and go home and be the least effected negatively by their action no matter how crazy that action may seem.

Their Shamrock Series was an absolute disaster at the outset but they stuck with it when most schools would have ditched it. For example, take the game at Lambeau against Wisconsin this season that was just cancelled. 99% of CFB fans probably believe that was a Wisconsin home game or neutral site game. Hell no, it was a ND Shamrock Series game, which is a ND offsite home game wherby ND controls all of the tickets and NBC has the TV rights!

I disagree. While the Irish will have no problem getting a decent schedule this season, the ND AD has announced that the ACC has already commited to helping them get a full schedule with conference teams.

ND will not screw with their ACC relationship. All of their non-football sports are completely integrated into the conference until 2036. That the ACC seems to be satisfied with this arrangement is bizarre but they were really in a weak position when they worked out the contract with ND. Maryland had just left and FSU and Clemson were being heavily courted by the unstable B12. If the ACC continues to grow stronger in football, ND may think about joining but as long as NBC ponies up the money I don’t see them seriously making a move.

I don't see how BYU is going to fit into this. If they do 1 OCC game for SEC, Big 12, and ACC, that works with 38 teams, 19 OOC games (Including ND with the ACC). Adding BYU could be a mess.

ETA: Acutally the Big 12 needs at least 11 teams for a 10+1 schedule so if BYU + Another Team join with the Big 12, the 10+1 would work.

Missouri HC is a Mormon. So BYU is better game for Mizzou and the HC.

I am in favor of better OOC scheduling but this is one year that Arkansas really needs the cupcake games. If you are tying to change the culture of a program nothing helps like winning.

Ask bama fans which opponent was better for building a monster from the depths of mediocrity: 2007 Louisiana Monroe, or 2008 Clemson.
