Just a few weeks back you still weren't sure.
It is absolute comedy.

No, Lane thought that Ole Miss could never win a championship. And he was right.

Kirby has had this game circled. I fully expect a beat down by Georgia

Stay away welcher.

Lane left thinking the team wouldn't go anywhere with or without him.
Lane left because, long-term, he believes that you can consistently build contenders at LSU more so than is likely at Ole Miss. The timing was poor as to when 1) a job like LSU opened; and 2) he was wanted for that job. It just so happened his best team ever was in the CFP the same year a program who fit the aforementioned criteria was calling. When you're taking a new job, you consider not what's better in the next 2 months but what's better for the next 10+ years. Ole Miss didn't win a national title last year and aren't likely to this year, so what exactly did Kiffin walk away from? Losing in the semi-finals? And if you think he missed his best shot at a national title...then doesn't that kinda make his reason for leaving even more valid?

What I don't get, though, is all the hate and bluster they're heaping on him for when and how he left - like it was his decision to abandon the team when they were in contention for a natty.
That's BS, and they know it
of course they know it. Their AD was demanding he sign an extension before the regular season was even over. Ole Miss wasn't going to let him coach the playoffs without him signing an extension.
It would have honestly been hilarious if Kiffin had said no and forced Ole Miss to choose between firing him without cause or letting him coach the playoffs.

I can’t imagine how anyone would disrespect him. He’s gone further in the CFP than any coach in the conference. The problem he may face, and I am not suggesting this will be the case, but next season or the next he will have his players and his roster management without any influence from that of Kiffin. If that means he goes 8-4 or worse will Ole Miss boosters and donors respect him. There probably ain’t 25 people on the planet whose respect he needs and it’s highly unlikely any of them have an account on TD. I can call him a slack jawed dead eyed frick son of un reconstructed whore and it won’t mean a thing to him and his position as HC at Ole Miss. If 3 or 4 of those 25 important people call him that it’s an issue.

If OM wins I will….
Never mind it’s not worth wasting time thinking about something ridiculous.

That isn’t the only choice.

Ed O dominated Kirby and UGA 2 years in a row. Do you respect him as a head coach?
Golding isn't bad as Orgeron. Ed depended on coordinators and a top quarterback. Golding will have his chance to prove it next year without the star quarterback.

He had one, but he left for the NFL in the Spring.

Sure, your AD left him with 2 choices: 1) sign an extension after the egg bowl or 2) not coach the team anymore

I mean time will tell if Golding doesn’t rely on his coordinators and a QB. Right now he’s inherited arguably the best QB in college football and a guy who was already on staff as his OC.

No. Lane built the team.

If he didn't sign and forced that scenario, he would have simply been reassigned in his duties to janitorial work.

You shifted the timeline back to the ultimatum.
Going back to the timeframe of what you posted….the third option would be for Carter to just not allow him to assume the duties of coaching. We would have never had been forced to fire him. He would have just chosen to sit on his already existing paycheck doing nothing until he left for LSU. And state law of Mississippi states that your contract is breached once you signed a competing contract.
