Weak attempt.
You’re gonna have to try harder than that.

OM has the best QB in the country and a lot back from a playoff team, why would that surprise people.Next season and recruiting will determine if Golden is any good, after all Mike Archer,Larry Coker, won 10 games their 1 st season.

Are Lane's players the ones who followed him to LSU? Or the ones who stayed to play for Pete?
Lane Kiffin built the Ole Miss roster, Kinda like Nick Saban Built the 2007 roster that Les Miles won with at LSU.

Does that earn your respect for him as a coach SEC?

That was Lane's victory last year.

Lane took the loss in the regular season.

Pete got the W after Lane didn't believe Ole Miss could beat UGA.

Lane built up that team throughout the year. It was his win.

This year would also be his win.

It won't be until next year that Golding would reasonably given credit for an accomplishment.

I didn’t realize Lane convinced Ole Miss’ players to stay there instead of following him to LSU considering each year you have to re-recruit your team. What a stand-up guy!

Lane didn't even believe the team could win in the playoffs.

With him......it wouldn't have.

You can give Pete credit for that. It's fair and reasonable.

But, it's a far stretch from building an entire program and roster from scratch. Pete is just driving Lane's bus that was already moving down the road.

It is what it is.

OM and Pete will make a big move at QB in the offseason. That will be the first piece of the puzzle in determining whether Pete can keep the program at its current status.

It was the same thing for Les Miles. To his credit, he was able to operate at an elite level even after Saban's players moved on.

Pete already recruited next year's starter. He is already on the team and has played in games....and looked very solid.

Pete was the recruiter the entire time. He actually built the team.

Funny, when I looked up "revisionist history" in Webster's this exact quote came up....

I seem to remember that Lane wanted to stay with OM and coach through the playoffs, but it was the OM powers-that-be that tried to strong-arm him into a new contract before forcing him leave early for LSU.

And now the narrative has morphed from "Lane abandoned us when we needed him most" to "Lane never thought his team could win in the playoffs so he bailed on us".

Seems to me that if, as you suggest, he "didn't think his team could win" then why did he want to stay and coach through the rest of the year?

Good for y'all that Pete was able to maintain some momentum after Lane was shown the door with a foot in his arse, but be honest about how that whole situation came about.

You'll find out I'm right. OM isn't going with Knight unless it can't make a big signing.

When it happens, you can remember this post.

You guys who can't confront reality amuse me.

It's reasonable to say..."Pete is going to be able to get the same level of talent as Lane, or even improve it, and he's going to be able to keep Ole Miss in top level of the SEC going forward".

It's not reasonable to say "None of the success Ole Miss is currently having is due to Lane. It's all Pete".

That's nonsense.

Lane left because he didn't think the team could win.

It is just the truth.

He didn't believe he could make it happen, so he left.

If Ole Miss makes another playoff run with the team he didn't believe in thats going to haunt him forever.

Shenannigans.

He wanted to stay and coach - that's been reported on ad nauseum. It's also been reported that your admin tried to force him to sign a new contract before they'd let him coach HIS team through the playoffs.

And the funny part is that LSU would have let him stay through the end of the playoffs - which, amazingly, most of the coaches that were following him to LSU actually DID do.

It was a ratfrick move by your admin that forced him to leave "his" team. THAT'S the truth, my friend. You can huff all the copium in the world and that fact won't change. You can make him the self-serving villain in your own personal drama to assuage the pain of losing your coach, but it's not Lane's fault that he didn't stay through the playoffs.

And, let me also say that I don't blame OM for doing whatever it could to keep Lane there. But resorting to emotional blackmail to try and keep him when he obviously wanted to pursue the LSU job backfired spectacularly - and now upset fans like yourself have to find ways to justify what happened.

Lane was always going to come to LSU once the decision was made. WHEN he was going to come here was completely decided by the idiot power play your admin tried (and failed to pull off).

Just admit it and move on.

If he thought he could make a run at Ole Miss he never leaves.

Accept it.

Now that is a reasonable conclusion.

But it also has absolutely no bearing on the question of whether or not he wanted to stay though the rest of last year and coach his team through the playoffs. And it has absolutely no bearing on why he left when he did.

According to Webster's, that's the definition of "deflection".

If you're going to continue this discussion, at least try to stay on-topic.
