It just proves he was wrong and didn't know what he had.

That's all.

coach HIS team

This is the issue that LSU fans can’t seem grasp. The program is bigger than just one coach. If you want the LSU football program to revolve around Lane, then that’s on you. Lane isn’t “owed” the right to continue coaching the team. The program reserves the right to do whats best for the program just like Lane reserves the right to do whats best for him. The pearl clutching by LSU fans is laughable and you idiots wouldn’t want a coach leaving for a rival to hang around your program trying to continue recruiting players to leave.

Imagine Saban leaving LSU for Bama. Are you honestly telling me that you would find it perfectly acceptable to allow him full access to your program and facilities while currently being employed by Bama?

There are only two simple answers. One of those answers is the correct one. The other one is you lying like hell because no sane person would allow that.

Asks a question, gets an answer that he doesn't like so he proceeds to insults....if you don't want to hear certain answers then don't ask the question.

You're making a reasonable point, but it doesn't apply to the conversation you're inserting yourself into.

The "point" your fellow Reb was trying to make was that Lane left OM in a lurch before the playoffs because "he didn't think they could win".

That's just pure, unadulterated horseshite. He left when he did because the OM admin forced him to decide between signing a contract or leaving early.

So, while you're making a valid point, it has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

And TBH, I don't know how I would feel if another school hired our coach away from us in the same situation. I can, say, however, that many other coaches who were in the same position as Lane last year were allowed to stay and coach their teams for the remainder of the season.

And, not to nitpick, but if Saban decided to leave LSU directly for Bama then he would NOT be a "Bama employee" until he actually left. While at LSU he would still be an LSU employee, just like Lane would have continued to be an OM employee if he'd been allowed to stay and coach through the playoffs.

And in either situation, it would have been entirely reasonable for LSU or OM admin to say that "you can stay, but you have to agree not to poach while you're here for the duration". There could have even been an additional contractual agreement stating that condition (and penalties if broached). But that's not the direction OM's admin chose to take, and his leaving when he did is entirely on them.

And IMO, if anyone's clutching pearls it's OM fans making shite stories up to explain or justify what happened when they really only need to look to their own admin to understand why Lane left when he did.

Whether or not it was the right decision to show him the door to "prevent further damage to the program" is a moot point when your argument is that he left of his own accord because he had no faith in his team.

As I said to your compadre - if you're going to continue this discussion at least stay on topic.

Sure sure.

He left knowing he'd never coach the team in another game.

They went further without him than he believed they could go with him.

Humiliating.

Would they ever show it? No. Not at all. Catholicism is more of a yoga class and deep down the majority of LSU fans are true pieces of shite. They would never ever admit fault, be humble, give a fair handshake.

Lane took the loss in the regular season.

Pete got the W after Lane didn't believe Ole Miss could beat UGA.

Lane lost in the regular season because Pete's defense gave up 43 points.

Interesting that the Ole Miss copes always forget this.

If LSU had never won a natty and letting Saban stick around gave LSU the chance to win one, I'd take that risk.

I wouldn't be naive enough to believe he wasn't tampering with the roster, whether he was there in person or not. Heck, y'all let his staff in the building.

Nice deflection from your original assertion, going from "he left because he didn't think the team could win in the playoffs" to spouting bullshite copium nonsense about what happened after he left.

If you want to be a butthurt crybaby about Lane leaving, then that's okay. There are plenty of LSU fans (myself included) that raved for years about Saban leaving LSU only to show up as head coach of their hated rival.

We understand your pain, even if the situation is completely different.

So, tell me again, why did Lane leave OM before his team started playing in the playoffs? That was your original point, no?

Try to follow the thread and stay on-topic, okay?

Bro, im not even reading your novels.

Lane left thinking the team wouldn't go anywhere with or without him.

Thats what ive said.

He left because he didn't believe in the team or himself.

You seem to be trying to convince yourself.

Everyone knows Lane wanted to finish coaching last years team. Everyone knows Ole Miss wouldn’t allow it. I’m don’t know why you feel the need to pretend otherwise.

Maybe Lane didn't believe in Pete. That defense was pretty mediocre last year.

It's pretty meh this year.

This is the truth. They forced Lane out before the playoffs because they were "scared of tampering" but left all of his assistants behind to coach anyway....

...like players don't have an even closer relationship with the assistants than they do with the head coach.

I get it, though. They're pissed Lane left and that's okay. What I don't get, though, is all the hate and bluster they're heaping on him for when and how he left - like it was his decision to abandon the team when they were in contention for a natty.

That's BS, and they know it, but they're trying to find some way to lash out at LSU and Tiger fans with nonsense false narratives to help them justify their continuing anger.

I guess beating us in their Super Bowl wasn't enough revenge for them. Sad.
