highup7,

First of all, you list my hometown as your place of residence. I lived there for 22 years of my life, and still live in the same county. We need to get together for some beverages.

Alex City is a strange and wonderful place.

Second of all, Alabama has a MUCH larger fanbase than Auburn for a lot of reasons. Mostly because of the championships, etc..., but also because many people view it as the STATE college as compared to Auburn.

Living only 35 minutes from Auburn, you see an inordinate amount of Auburn graduates and people traveling US-280 to Auburn. It can skew perceptions. I saw some statistics once that showed the Alabama fanbase at somewhere near 70% of state residents. I don't think it is actually that high, but it is well over 60%.

On another interesting note: You know that Terrell Owens is from Alex City, right? Have you also noticed that it really doesn't get mentioned that much? No streets, signs, buildings, anything named for him.

My second favorite SEC team is AU. BTW

First off, you both FAIL as fans of either team. Why don't y'all start cheering for Southern Cal as well. No real Auburn fans "like" LSU trust me.

quote:

I asked them what they thought we had and they responded that we probably had a dog named tiger like Tennessee has a dog named Smokey. I laughed and told them either they don't get out much or watch LSU on TV.

Second, the people you are referring to are not really AU fans. Perhaps this is why they like LSU. I'm sure the real ones know we don't have a fricking dog named Mike, and they probably don't "like" us either.

Lastly

well why aren't you? You live in AL, and they are your second favorite team... so whats the problem? Why don't you don their gear when they aren't playing us.

ETA: Sorry for the harsh words I didn't see this...

I associate with the people my age (57) who graduated from AU and they said that during their time at AU they were called the Plainsmen

I didn't realize some of you fought side by side in the civil war. Sorry for ripping you.

The reason why AU is my second favorite team is that most of my friends here are graduates of AU. Those AU fans had nothing but good things to say about LSU and they told me that LSU represented the conference well. I also know some Bama fans. While they aren't the nicest that I've ever met, I'm sick of them always telling me that Miles won with Saban's players. Apparently it is over their heads when I ask who coached Saban's players? Overall both fan bases have treated me well. Being 40 miles from AU, I'm in the middle of AU country. I've been to the AU campus quite a few times. While not nearly being the size of LSU, the campus is very nice. Their new basketball arena that hasn't opened yet is really nice. Their baseball park is very nice. Even though it is not the size of the new Box, the facility is first class. I walked through the campus wearing my LSU shirt. I did not intend to wear the shirt there but I had it on when my neighbor's daughter asked me if I wanted her to show me around since she goes there. While walking through the campus I heard a couple of Geaux Tigers. Overall I've had a positive experience with the AU fan base.

Bama getting first coverage reminds me of living in New Orleans when Tulane was decent and the sports always started off with a story about LSU. Apparently AU is the Tulane of Alabama. Thank God AU had enough sense never to bolt from the conference. Bolting from the SEC was the demise of Tulane. I bet the old timers at Ga. Tech still wish they were in the SEC.

I wish Tulane was still in the SEC.
Another Vandy? No problem.
I'm sure some Ga. Tech fans feel the same way.

i wish they were still in the conference and could actually still be viewed as a real rivalry for LSU. I always thought LA could support two big college teams. Oh well.
