The opening line is only Rice -1.5.

It was a relative 'big' win for Tulane. That said, fans hope the young team continues to learn, grow and execute in the final three (winnable) games (@ Rice, @ UCF and @ SMU). Despite injuries, a thin LB corp, terrible special teams, a QB change, etc. - a 6-6 record would be a really nice step forward for the program. As always, we'll see what happens.

Is it time yet for LSU to start getting worried?
Um...I was cautiously optimistic about the Marshall game.
Thought that there might be a Homecoming factor - especially after 2008's terrible loss and devastating injuries.
Oh well. It will not get any easier for Tulane.
A tough stretch coming up w/ Houston, @Southern Miss. and @LSU.
Tulane running back Payten Jason likely out for season - Times-Picayune :casty:
- ...freshman running back Payten Jason's patella tendon likely was torn on a late fourth-quarter illegal hit against Marshall, Coach Bob Toledo said.
- Jason was horse-collared by Kevin Perry on the play, and his left knee buckled. He twisted to the turf in pain.
- "He'll get an MRI (exam) tomorrow, and they just told me he'll have surgery on Monday, " Toledo said. Jason likely will miss the rest of the season.

Jason was injured on the play.

Tulane in same spot as last year - neworleans.com
- One year ago, Bob Toledo's Tulane Green Wave were impressive in September, losing competitive games to nationally-ranked Alabama (20-6) and East Carolina (28-24) before defeating ULM (24-10) and SMU (34-27) to go 2-2. Then came homecoming. ....
Tulane's season effectively ended that day in an embarrassing, horrifyingly bad effort in a 44-13 blowout loss to a bad Cadets squad.

Tulane Green Wave freshman Shakiel Smith seeing a lot of playing time - Times-Picayune
- Smith (from Edna Karr HS) is someone Toledo knew would immediately contribute to the program. But the Green Wave staff never visualized the 6-foot, 185-pound high school cornerback playing linebacker or playing on every non-offensive snap.
- As a senior at Karr, he intercepted eight passes and made 72 tackles.
- "I thought he would be a major contributor right away because of his physical attributes," Karr High School Coach Jabbar Juluke said. "Most of the coaches on my staff here played college ball, and we know that the intensity level is real high. You have to have a lot of energy to play college ball. And that’s how our practices are. It was non-stop for Shakiel."

Micah Owings. His .808 OPS puts him 3rd on the team with anyone over 50 AB's. So he knows when, i mean if this pitching thing doesn't work out he can always hit.

I'm sure you're more than aware, but FWIW:

Late surge is no prelude, but it's promising - Cincinnati Enquirer (10/3/09):

Reds bests and worsts
- MVP: Brandon Phillips. You've got to give him the nod over Joey Votto, although Votto's average, on-base and slugging percentages are superior. Phillips reached 20 home runs, 20 steals and 20 doubles for the third straight year. He has driven in a career-high 95 runs. He's also the club's best defender. And he's played 151 games. There's great value in durability in baseball.
- Cy Young: Bronson Arroyo. He went 15-13 with a 3.84 ERA going into today's final start. He ended the season with one of the best streaks of consistency over the last 20 years.
- Rookie of the year: Ryan Hanigan. He was solid at the plate - .268 average, .306 on-base - and behind the plate. Very hard call. Daniel Ray Herrera had a nice year (4-4, 3.06 ERA), and the Reds have a been a different and better team since Drew Stubbs came up.
- Biggest disappointment: Willy Taveras. The Reds hoped he would help the offense from the leadoff spot. He didn't hit (.240), didn't get on base (.275) and didn't steal like he had in the past (25 stolen bases). His defense also was disappointing. Bad breaks on the ball negated his great speed.
- Biggest surprise: Jonny Gomes. Gomes came off a year in which he hit .183. He hit .266 with 20 home runs and 50 RBI in only 278 at-bats. He was solid in the outfield and is good in the clubhouse.

Five questions going into next season
- Who plays shortstop? Paul Janish is first-rate defensively. But his average has hovered around .220. His 21 doubles in 250 at-bats are a good sign.
- Who plays left field? The list of candidates is long: Jonny Gomes, Wladimir Balentien, Juan Francisco, Chris Heisey and Laynce Nix. Gomes and Nix are arbitration eligible. The Reds have to make a decision on them.
- What to do with Willy? Taveras has lost his center field job to Stubbs. Taveras doesn't fit the mold of a bench player. He has little power. But there's the matter of his $4 million contract.
- Who's the fifth starter? Matt Maloney is probably the leader in the clubhouse. Justin Lehr also will get consideration, if the Reds bring him back. Travis Wood, like Maloney a left-hander, had a tremendous year in the minors.
- Who's going to be the pitching coach? Getting Dave Duncan would be a coup. But he's expensive and will be in great demand if he leaves St. Louis. Mario Soto is an intriguing internal candidate. The question is: Does he want the job?

Really. GFY

Well, I guess that was deserved. But relax - it's just a discussion board.

Listen, I'm not a Reds fan, but have always enjoyed their teams.
Always been a huge fan of Charlie Hustle, Larkin, Eric Davis, Sabo, etc.
Wish them nothing but the best in 2010 - seriously.

After the month+ trash talking, nobody's interested in your delusional D1-AA/FCS/Southland Conf. fanaticism.
quote:

do you happen to have any idea why Tulane and LaTech don't play?
No idea - perhaps others have more insight.
Many Tulane fans would certainly prefer scheduling/playing Dooley's rising La. Tech team over the likes of ULL, ULM, D-1AA McNeese, etc.

FYI: Tulane is 8-0 all-time record versus La. Tech .

Despite the preseason honors, Ross Thevenot and/or the kicking team has been disappointing. :casty:

Should be Tulane 10, Army 3. Oh well...

Tulane's defense has picked it up and is playing well. Offense need to stop making mistakes and take over.

Beginning of the 3rdQ, Tulane's defense playing well. Army punts after an initial 3 and out.
Tulane's offense stays on the field w/ a first down.
