My neighbors bought a washer and dryer set from Home Depot. They needed a new washer and dryer because theirs were destroyed by the flood. They wanted a machine that had all of the so called extras. Home Depot had only one dryer and washer left in the store. It was a very cheap combo that didn't have the extras they were looking for. Since they were desperate, they took the cheap set. The wife noticed how much cleaner her clothes were when she washed them the first time. She said that she likes the cheap washer much better than her Whirlpool that was destroyed. Her cheap set is an Amana. I think that a well known company makes that brand.

I'm useless like you are. The only thing that I ever did was change the oil in my car many years ago. I wouldn't attempt to do that now.
I'm from Hillsdale, Michigan and I don't miss the winters and snow up there one bit. I'll take these Louisiana summers over Michigan winters any day. I would definitely have a different point of view if air conditioners didn't exist. I miss going to Canada.
Years ago I went to some small burger place and they had ketchup in those small plastic containers that you had to tear the top off. I thought that the taste of that ketchup was very good. It also had a sweet taste to it. The brand name of the ketchup was Kraft and they don't sell it in the U.S. I was told that if I really wanted that ketchup I would have to go to Canada to buy it.
Sky King was a name of a TV program in the late fifties. The program dealt with a plane called Sky King and I think that the plane was used to apprehend the bad guys.
The watery grave is definitely in Bama's fight song. Tech had a big time rivalry with Bama. Auburn also had a big rivalry with Tech. During the week before Auburn and Tech would play, Auburn had a wreck Tech parade that was held in down town Auburn. Tech and LSU was a big rival game that was beginning to take shape. Many Tech fans still believe it was a mistake to leave the SEC. At least Tech landed in a so so conference. Tulane left two years after Tech did. Imagine if Tulane had stayed, their athletic program would be a lot different than it is today. Tulane left the SEC and it has been down sizing their athletics program ever since. I think that when Tulane played at home their stadium was the largest in the SEC. Back in the old days, Tulane stadium was bigger than Tiger stadium. I just think that Tulane leaving the SEC killed their athletic program. Tulane now has a big high school stadium where it plays its home games.

I went and saw that prison when my class went on a field trip. Some of the inmates were allowed to interact with us. The person in charge of that particular section of the jail asked if she could take the female students to a room that looked like a big gymnasium. The girls were allowed to go. The girls were in that room for over an hour and when they came out they looked like they were scared to death. I asked one girl what the talk was about. She told me that about fifteen inmates were allowed to speak to them as a group. She also said that if she was forced to live there, she would kill herself before she was sent there. She told me that she couldn't see how people could live in those conditions. Quite a few of the girls said that those inmates belonged there for the horrible crimes they did. One woman told the girls that she was there for life because she killed a man that was bothering her. She said that she broke into his house and pulled a gun on him. She said that two men who were friends of her helped her hold the man down. She forced the man to drink several glasses of Draino. The man was still alive when they left the house because they heard a car drive up. Another inmate told the girls what most of the women get when they are sent there. The girl told us that she would never look at a broom stick the same way that she did before she was sent there. t was impressed with the way the female inmates took the blame for the crimes they did. I went to that place one time and I never want to go there ever again. I just thought that St. Gabrial (sp} was just a prison. I really never thought about what actually goes on in there.

When I was living in Montgomery, I met a guy that played for the Bear. We got into a talk about different traditions that SEC schools had. He knew about the "rag" that Tulane and LSU had. He then told me that LSU would park the tiger very close to the visiting team's tunnel. He said that waiting for the team to enter the field the live tiger in his cage was constantly being teased by him and his teammates. He said that they threw ice at him and make sounds that the tiger probably didn't hear before. He said that when he was a senior his teammates really were teasing the heck out of the tiger. He said that they could never make that tiger roar. He said that teasing that tiger was fun to do. He said that the tiger never roared despite getting ice and water on him. He said that the Bear saw the teasing and he told his team to let the tiger alone and if they didn't he would pull the player out of a game for several minutes. I told him that even though the Bear threatened his players if the game was very close there is no way that the Bear would pull his players out.
Why do you think Walt Disney backed out of Disney World? He wanted to build it in an area that was very close to New Orleans? Disney World was scheduled to be built on a site that would attract people from neighboring states. Guess what happened. A group of people that were well known and those in politics approached Walt and demanded that they wanted a piece of the pie after Disney World was built. Walt immediately said no and Disney World was built in another state. It was said that Walt could not believe how corrupt the La. law makers were, so he told La. that because of corruption involving their law makers he took Disney World off of the table. People in La. wonder why this state is a state that will never move forward. Corruption in La. is well known in this country. Every law maker wants their share of the pie. Corruption is why this state will never advance because law makers and wealthy people will always have their fingers in the pie. Here is another fact about the corruption that is going on. Did you know that a automobile plant wanted to locate in Louisiana but they were approached by the crooks and they said no way in hell that we are going to build an auto plant in Louisiana. Montgomery, Alabama got the plant .
I'm currently dealing with an old woman who is selling her house. My lawn man asked me if I could hold off for an extra week because his wife had a miscarriage and she was taking losing the baby pretty hard. I told him to take all of the time he needed. Two days later I had a note taped to my door telling me that I disrespect my neighbors by not having my lawn cut. I found out today that she went to every house on my street to ask what kind of person I am. She did a background check on me and she was mad that she couldn't find anything on me. She told people that her house is on the market and my long grass is keeping potential buyers away. She moved here ten years ago to be close to her daughter. She is from Nevada. She plans to live with her ugly daughter. I never saw or met this old woman and if I ever see her outside I plan to have a conversation with her. She also said that I need to keep my garage door down. My garage has nothing in it until I park my car in it every night. I think that old dog is taking extreme measures against.me. She also reported me to the city telling them that I won't cut my grass. I'm glad that she is moving but I never saw or met her.

I can't drink alcohol at all because I was told that I have cirrhosis. I feel fine and so far I haven't had any problems. I was never a fall down drunk but I usually drank two drinks before going to bed. I have insomnia and the two drinks helped me fall asleep. When I was told what I have I just thought to myself there is nobody to blame but me. The doctor never gave me a prescription or medicine to help me. He told me never to drink alcohol again. I haven't touched a drink in over a year and I never felt any pain.

re: Full 1970 LSU - Ole Miss game

Posted by highup7 on 7/18/24 at 9:05 pm to
I was in my second year at LSU and I was at that game. Even after that game where we beat the hell out of them, the game the previous year, was still on most people's mind. The previous year Ole Miss beat us in Jackson and that one game caused LSU a natty plus Notre Dame decided to go bowling after several years of rejecting the invites that were offered to them. LSU got screwed big time that year but the Ole Miss and LSU rivalry definitely got heated up. Back in those days college football was fun to attend and the rivalries were definitely much stronger than they are today. Back then LSU usually opened their schedule with A&M, Baylor, and Rice. Those three schools were the doormats of the old SWC.
When I went to LSU, the tiger band was great. The band actually won some kind of competition and was named the best band to perform on TV. Back then, Ole Miss had a great band. When they were performing at half time they put on a fantastic show in Tiger Stadium in which Popeye downed a can

of spinach. This performance was done a couple of weeks before the winner was announced. I thought that Ole Miss would definitely win the TV award after I saw their performace. I was surprised when LSU was announced as the winner. Back in those days most bands were extremely loud. The Tiger Band sucks now and I think the best band in the SEC now is Auburn. Their band is loud and their marching formations are top notched. The Auburn band is a lot better than Bama's band. There are two bands in the SEC that are not worth watching and the two are Vandy and Kentucky. I wish that the Tiger band was as good as they used to be. Somebody or something is currently holding Tiger Band at bay. I thought that the worse Tiger Band ever was were during the Rouse years.
I was living in Montgomery, Alabama when Saban said that he was retiring. The majority of Bama fans told me that when their new coach loses two games during a season the fans will be calling for him to be fired. When he is fired they said to look for Saban ending his retirement and be back on the Bama sidelines. I told them that I wouldn't bet money that Saban will come out of retirement. The Bama fans still laugh at us for buying into the promises that Saban made at LSU. They really laugh when Saban told everyone that he will not be the next coach at Bama. The more that I think about what they told me I wouldn't be shocked if what they told me actually happens.

Did any of you see the video of a black lady that was laying on her back on Bourbon Street? She was alert and knew that her situation wasn't going to end well. Like an idiot I watched that entire video. You later see a black man carrying a rifle and walking to where that woman was laying down. She couldn't run or get up from the street because that black guy already injured her previously. You could tell by the expression on her face that she knew she was going to die. The guy with the gun then shot her in the face. She died instantly. The killer ran away and they later arrested him in the state of Tennessee. I saw that video on you tube and because of all the complaints, you tube took the video down and got rid of it. I just wished that I didn't watch a woman's last minutes on earth. I always wonder why the person who recorded that incident did not call the police. I'll probably always think of that murder until the day I die.

re: 27 year old cirrhosis

I drank because I had trouble falling asleep. I have insomnia and I used to make a drink of whisky and coke. I drank whiskey and coke and I then would chase it with about four over the counter sleep meds. I would fall asleep and I never had a problem of insomnia if I took a drink before I went to bed. During the day I would drink about six mixed drinks a day. The drinks just relaxed me. I never made a strong drink that would cause me to fall. The one thing that I would never do even if I had just one drink was to get behind the wheel of a car. My brother was home after he served in Vietnam. About three days later he was invited to go with friends on a camping trip. He went camping and on the way home a dunk was driving and crossed the center line and crashed into my brother's head on. My brother was killed. Well, I had to go to the doctor last year and he preformed several X rays. About an hour later the doc.asked me if I took large amounts of of pain medication and if I drank a lot and I replied no.You see, I quit drinking alchohol about two years before I took the test. He later told me that I have cirrhosis of the liver. I never had any pain due to the cirrhosis. I just plan to do what I enjoy doing and I am the one to blame because I was stupid.
Thanks Cajun, that is definitely the name of the cake.
What about the blacks in New Orleans who firmly believe that where they lived the white man caused the flooding by running their outdoor hoses all night? About six years ago I went into a fast food place. The black lady took my order and I received what I ordered. The lady asked me where I was from because of my accent. I told her that I'm a New Orleans native but I grew up in Baton Rouge. While I was eating my lunch I heard what she said to another coworker. She told her coworker that the real reason why so many blacks died because of Katrina was because a white guy blew up part of the levee because New Orleans wanted a lot of blacks to leave New Orleans for good. While I was leaving I told her that I heard her conversation and I asked what type of person would want to kill thousands of innocent people. She told me that the person who blew up the levee was offered over two million dollars to blow it up. She told me that the white man who did it was going to be paid after the threat of the hurricane. I left but I wanted to ask her what person would do the deed knowing he would get over two million dollars but what good is the money if he dies? Some people believe stupid things and you can't change their minds. I remember seeing a green hose that was on in the paper. They actually believe that all the white people had their garden hoses on and flooded the city.
I'm originally from New Orleans and somebody asked me a question that I'm having trouble remembering the name. A lady asked me what the cake is called and how to make it. I knew immediately what she was talking about but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the cake. The last time that I had some of the unknown cake was over twenty years ago when I worked in Avondale. Here are some of the facts of the unknown cake that I remember when I saw my grandmother make one. The cake is made when you have about five different kinds of cake that are baked. The cakes are pulled into pieces and the pieces that are pulled are usually put in a punch bowl. You take a spoon and mix the pieces together. The last thing that I remember was some kind of liquid was poured over the cake pieces in the punch bowl. There are other ingredients used in making the cake but I can't remember them at all. I also remember that the cake was delicious. Does anyone remember the name of the cake that I'm talking about?
