If I was an Auburn Fan

I'm a graduate of LSU. I can't help but notice the favortism by almost every TV station in this state favoring Alabama. I usually watch Channel 8 out of Montgomery quite a bit. Montgomery is about 40 miles from Auburn. Every day that I watch the sports segment of the news, the lead off story is always Alabama first and AU second. Seeing this crap made me realize why Bama fans call AU their stepchild. Most of the people that I've met in this town are AU fans and they really like LSU. The Bama fans that I've met tell me the shite that Miles won with Saban's recruits. That shite got old fast. My second favorite SEC team is AU. BTW, they admit that they don't know the reason behind the multiple mascots plus a lot of them didn't realize that we have a real tiger. I asked them what they thought we had and they responded that we probably had a dog named tiger like Tennessee has a dog named Smokey. I laughed and told them either they don't get out much or watch LSU on TV.

Absolutely true, and it's been that way my entire life (43 years). UA has always received the lion's share of media coverage.

Where are you polling these "Auburn fans"? A waffle house at 3am?

AU CATFISH, I'm not polling anyone. I associate with the people my age (57) who graduated from AU and they said that during their time at AU they were called the Plainsmen. One even produced a '69 yearbook that definitely states that ya'll were the Plainsmen. FWIW, go to the AU library and look up the old AU yearbooks, then come back to me and give me a link where your school was always called the tigers. BTW, go read the book The History of the SEC and find out what your original mascot was when a group of schools withdrew from the southern conference and formed the SEC. That book is a good read.

That is what people mean when the say Alabama is, and always will be, an Alabama Crimson Tide state. It really doesn't matter how many times Auburn beats Alabama.

Maybe. More people in Alabama are for Bama for one main reason - Bear Bryant and Bama's dominance and winning for decades especially when tv was becoming prominent post WW2 and then when the state was past the black eye from civil rights. I bet if AU had that run at that time things would be different as far as instate fans. It was kinda simple, follow winning and the greater source of instate pride. Now it is so ingrained in the state and in families that it would take more than a similiar run for AU to have the same effect.
Anyway, as an AU fan, that is the way I like it. I like the uneducated masses and vast majority of the redneck population of the state pulling for the "Tahhdd" and saying "Rawl Tahhdd" because they simply don't know any better and have probably never set foot in AU or any other university. The only thing I do not like is the instate advantage in recruiting, but it's not really gonna change and AU still pulls in very good classes and makes them better players anyway so no big deal.
And as far as LSU, I agree with the OP, LSU is by far my second favorite SEC team. One, I see LSU as a similiar type school and program. Two, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And by the way I have seen Mike and he kicks arse.
Kinda like our "Tiger".

i have to say the huntsville area stations do the same unless something big happened at auburn and no news out of bama. back when i lived in MS i never noticed which school at the most attention since both ole miss and msu were located in the same viewing area.

By the way, I was in a book store at a mall in Mobile last weekend killing some time. I looked through the magazine section and along with all the preseason mags, I noticed 6 different Bama magazine publications and exactly 1 AU one (Inside the AU Tigers). Which coincidently I witnessed the beginning of when I was in school at AU and Quentin Riggens and another player were given the idea (or came up with it themselves - I can't remember) in a class I was in. We got the complimentary first issues that quarter (back when AU was still on quarters).
Anyway, all the Bama mags made me chuckle. I just thought Rawl Tahhdd, no matter how many mags Bama puts out and proclaims to be back, they stick suck and haven't won in 7 years and counting.

You can say the same thing with Texas here compared to A&M, Tech, TCU, SMU, etc.

Except look at the relative strength of Texas compared to those other schools. AU is the #9 best team in the country over the last quarter century and Bama is #20. Also, Bama has about a 52% winning percentage against AU - virtually even. I doubt that is the case with Texas vs A&M, Tech, SMU, etc.

Auburn is pretty much an after thought in this state. I'm not saying that being rude, it is just the truth. You have Alabama with the tradition the we have, the championships, coach Bryant and the national prominence and then you have Auburn.
It takes more than a 6 year winning streak over your rival to be what Alabama is as a program.
Very few places have ever or will ever do what has happened at Alabama and Alabama will do it again it is just a matter of when.
Auburn has a great program but what have they accomplished really? They did get screwed in 04' and that was bullshite but other than that and having a streak against BAMA what have they done?
There is no comparison between Alabama and Auburn and that's not ragging it's the truth.

We will agree to disagree scoop. If you were arlo or rockystop I would get pissed, but we have had this discussion (pissing contest) before and I kinda like you ok now so we will just agree to a difference of opinion.

i will agree that bama does get a little more attention than auburn in this state. it would definitely be the other way around in my opinion had it been auburn that had those runs back in the day. but, i do feel as though auburns presence is felt through the state more than it used to be. i see a lot of auburn tags and stickers on cars here in tuscaloosa so auburn is well represented. i had a friend from high school that attended auburn for his major and had many many opportunities to visit auburn on weekends and spend time around the campus. it truly is beautiful campus and a very nice town. i know they get a bad rap for having a very high number of trailers and trailer parks, but other than that, we would attend some frat parties and go out in town wearing bama hats and really never had to deal with a lot of crap. now on gameday weekends that was a different story, but still not too unbearable. anyways, my heart will always be in tuscaloosa and i will always be a bama fan, but i don't have too much bad to say about my experiences down at the barn.

growing up in Mobile, it always seemed like the vast unwashed masses were tahd fans (for proof, go to the eye opening experience that is mobile "international" speedway in irvington and count the necks in crimson vs. the ones in orange, its almost 20 to 1 ((aparently dale sr. was bear bryants best friend, btw)). The auburn fans that you did see were generally grads or their 3rd cousin's husband met pat dye once and they felt like being different from the rest of the trailer park.
