Not if 9-3 is getting us into a 12-team playoff.

Saban insisting on still being involved is going to hinder any coach they hire.

In today's CFB world, 9-3 would be a great season

If that means no CFP appearances and no SECCG appearances, I'd say his seat would be getting quite hot. Especially if there are unsettling losses to the three schools called out by name when they sing Dixieland Delight.

It's a big if, mind you.

No, he would not. But depending on who he lost to and how they lost; and how they did in the bowl games; he may feel a little heat going into year three. I expect Alabama to go 8-4 or 9-3 this year. I expected Saban to go 10-2, but 9-3 was just as likely with the schedule.

The fans that think Alabama should go undefeated every year because they are Alabama are too stupid to even engage in conversation with. Alabama will almost certainly take a step back for at least a year or two. But I think Deboer was the best possible hire. Kirby wasn’t leaving. And we haven’t figured out how to clone a 50 year old Saban. Yet.

Which is gonna bolster the SEC crown as more valuable than it used to be btw.

Does DeBour get run off if Bama starts averaging 100th in the nation in rushing yards per game while the passing game is led by Will Rogers. I think that offense would make Saban fuming mad.

Portal open because coach left. Everyone’s NIL collective can tamper with Alabama’s roster to encourage them into the portal. Alabama’s roster could be a dramatically different situation than it projected to be with Saban in 2024.

Portal works both ways. He can bring some good players also. Receivers will want to play for him. Winning cures all and he knows how to win

It's a whole new arse sport, bud. No one can predict how his role in recruiting is going to help us transition.

As long as his loses were not to the Barn,LSU,and the Vols it would be a no issue.

Then who exactly would the 3 losses be?

Bammers on this board are constantly trashing BK for going 9-3 in the first two years of a rebuild.

No way they tolerate that with the most talent in the country.

If Bama’s a three loss team, then they’re losing to the top teams in the conference plus an additional mid-tier. So it’s be loss to Georgia, LSU, and a loss to Ole Miss.

Next year Alabama plays:

Wisconsin (Madison)
Georgia (Tuscaloosa)
Tennessee (Knoxville)
Missouri (Tuscaloosa)
LSU (Baton Rouge)
Oklahoma (Norman)
Auburn (Tuscaloosa)

Alabama isn’t scheduled to play Ole Miss, so we won’t lose to them in the regular season. But Alabama could beat Georgia and LSU and still lose three games.

If Alabama goes 4-3 against that slate and holds serve against everyone else and finishes 9-3 with a first year coach I will be very happy. Elated.

Sure, but this year was the highest bar in recent memory for getting into the playoff. Kinda the polar opposite of 2007 when LSU slipped into a 2 team playoff with 2 losses.

3 loss teams getting in won't be the norm but certainly won't be unheard of.

But the only 3 loss teams in the CFP top 10 since 2020 have been winners of their CCG. Utah in 2021 and 2022 and K State in 2022. Going to be hard to get in a top 2 SECCG with 3 losses, assuming one of those is OOC.

Depends on the why. 9-3 in the first two seasons won’t get him fired. If the transfer portal hits us hard this offseason and the team struggles but continues showing improvement season to season with those 3 losses in the third season being very competitive and a good class coming in, I would say he is ok. 10-2 is going to be a damn good season with a playoff berth in the new SEC, especially when we go to 9 conference games.

Three straight 9-3 seasons would be perceived better than 10-2, 9-3, 8-4.

I just looked at every ranking in the CFP era. There’s not a 8-4 team close to being top 12.
