OU and Nebraska were the two toughest defenses McCoy played that season before Bama. He threw for 311 yards with four ints and 1 TD combined in those two games

But he moved the ball like 30 yards on that 1st drive he was clearly not going to be stopped all night!

They are saying that Garrett Gilbert wouldn't have led Texas to a win?

Well yea, I agree.

Again, bad comparison. Watson was way more essential to Clemson's success that McCoy was to Texas'.

Fan 1 - if *star quarterback* gets hurt we win, no doubt.

Fan 2 - if *star quarterback* doesn't get hurt we win, no doubt.

It's also not the same argument, as noted above.

Gilbert couldn't beat Alabama =/= McCoy would beat Alabama

LSU can't beat Alabama with Myles Brennan. They also can't beat Alabama with Joe Burrow.

I asked a simple question too........if Deshaun Watson plays the entire game in 2015, does Clemson win?

Colt McCoy < Deshaun Watson....not a great comparison.

But that is kind of the point - saying the backup can't win =/= the same as saying the starter would definitely win.

Clemson's backup would not have won in 2015. Their starter also did not win.

It's a intellectually vacant argument because we are all blessed with the knowledge of what Bryant did against Bama last year. We saw basically nothing of McCoy against Bama, so it's comparing a complete hypothetical to actual history.

Texas won multiple games in 2009 in spite of McCoy's lousy play. How many times could that be said of Watson's time at Clemson?

To be fair, this board is based on the concept of intellectual vacancy.

The point is Alabama fans agree - without their star player, Clemson would not win.

Texas fans are saying - with their star player, Alabama would not win.

You didn't ask that question. You asked if Clemson would have won in 2016 without Deshaun Watson. You got a specific answer based on a specific question. Not all "star players" are created equal.

I’m an OU fan and even I will admit that colt would have won those bastards that game.
