It's a intellectually vacant argument because we are all blessed with the knowledge of what Bryant did against Bama last year. We saw basically nothing of McCoy against Bama, so it's comparing a complete hypothetical to actual history.

But its not without some indicators

What Bama did to Tebow

What Bama did to McCoys backup

What Bama did offensively to Texas

What McCoy did against similar defenses.

Basically all the statistical and indirect evidence points to McCoy not making a difference. Im just trying to figure out what indicates that McCoy would have led them to a victory

Texas won multiple games in 2009 in spite of McCoy's lousy play. How many times could that be said of Watson's time at Clemson?

Auburn vs Clemson
- Clemson won 19-13
- Watson had a 63.3 QBR, 1 TD

Troy vs Clemson
- Clemson won 30-24
- Watson had a 29.8 QBR

Florida State vs Clemson
- Clemson won 37-34
- Watson 2 interceptions, 4 sacks, 58.3 QBR

Deshaun Watson gets hurt on the first drive of game 2... does a Kelly Bryant led Clemson win?

If Joe Burrow gets hurt in the 1st Drive, does LSU score?

Each of those performances was better than what McCoy produced against the best defenses he faced in 2009.

Yeah, and if Sam Bradford hadn't gotten hurt, Texas wouldn't have won.

The fact that Texas players and fans overlook Oklahoma losing a Heisman Trophy winner in their game but make a big deal about McCoy getting hurt is downright comical.

These idiots really believe this .

I mean...it's really not outlandish to suggest.

What's outlandish is everyone ignoring the fact that Texas was the beneficiary of Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy QB getting hurt in their game. If you're gonna say that Texas probably would have won the game if Colt hadn't gotten hurt, then you have to also say that if Bradford hadn't gotten hurt, Texas never would have made it to the championship game to play Alabama in the first place. His replacement threw two picks.

Colt got hurt because Saban scouted tendencies well enough to have the perfect defensive play call on the play.

No doubt it did. But it made a huge difference to how Bama handled their business as well.

We will never know if Texas would have won if Colt plays the whole game or not

Good point. Also, what a terrible terrible play call.

Why run your QB up the middle, against that defense, on the 1st drive?

And Colt threw a lob pass against Nebraska in the Big XII that arguably ran all the time off the clock to give The Huskers the conference title. Until Mac cried a little to get another chance...

So many what ifs.

Colt played much tougher defenses - not the kind we see today.

But stat comparing is silly. The game is different.

In 2009 there were 3 QB’s over 3,700 yards.
In 2016 there were 10 QB’s over 3,700 yards.

If Bradford wasn't hurt Texas wouldn't have won and never would have played Alabama.

I don't see how any could argue against that.

Yeah, I don't really care about that though. This point of this whole thread is that McCoy getting hurt somehow cheapens Alabama's championship. Dumbasses like WilliamTaylor21 are too stupid to grasp the fact that they are just making the case that Texas should never have been in the game to begin with.

It says a lot about how complacent Alabama's offense got in the second half. Gilbert didn't light it up by any stretch of the imagination. He was 15-40 for 186 yards and threw four interceptions.

I think that was 20% gameplan and 80% players thinking the game was over (obviously the percentages are just used for emphasis). With Gilbert in there, a focused 2009 bama team could have run the ball just fine with a conservative game plan and Texas wouldn't have sniffed anything.
