Only way he gets fired by the end of the year is if Auburn somehow falls apart mentally because physically and talent wise on average can be a 6-6, 7-5 team easy, so like 5-7 or 4-8 Gene might be packing his bags

If they lose to MSU, 5-7 is a real possibility.

I don't think it is possible for him to get fired this year.

Wow...honest responses from all of the Bama fans. Yeah, I agree, it will have to be a total train wreck...like only 1 SEC win which I suppose is possible, but not likely. I expect that wrapping up and finishing tackles will be of big emphasis this week and we should see a lot less of that. The 8-10 yards of cushion wasn't quite as puzzling to me as the fact that we didn't adjust after they were clearly exploiting it...until the end. That's on the coaches. Next, on many plays, like maybe half of them, the D was obviously not ready when the ball was snapped...still talking to each other, still moving into position, not yet in a 3 point stance, etc...so the entire offense was getting a jump on the D on like half of the offensive plays. How the frick did the coaches not anticipate Clemson running a fast paced offense? They did last year and have said publicly that the plan was to be faster this year. Totally on the coaches. I guess the stache hasn't seen a scheme like that in the NFL....and maybe never. Luckily, I don't think we have that problem versus state.

I think that the biggest change is to not give the receivers so much cushion for those easy underneath yards they kept getting over and over and over.

As mentioned previously, we have one of the best defensive recruiting classes coming in Auburn's history. I'd think they keep him for at least one more year based solely on that.

If things continue to deteriorate - say 6-6 this year and 5-7 next year - then he's gone.

Any Auburn fans saying otherwise are out of their mind.

So if he goes 10-2, he is gone?

The fan base and the AD will be furious, but if they are smart they will support him in public because he is pulling in one heck of a '13 recruiting class. To fire him in season risks that. Now, if by signing day many of these 4&5* recruits flip, he is toast.

Only way Chizik gets fired this year is if AU absolutely implodes and goes 5-7 or worse.

If he loses to State it will be a long season and he will be in Derek Dooley mode next year. Anything less than 9 wins next season and I'd say 80% chance he is gone.

I think he's fine for this year unless things get totally out of control. The fan base will start getting a little heated but he should be ok this year. Now next season will be a very hot seat.

They're young. Next year is the target year for significant improvement.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see Auburn firing him this year, even if they go 7-5 or worse.

I believe 2013 is the year that he will be fighting for his job. Not that Auburn fans won't get restless this year (of course they will), but I think the administration will give him one more year.

I have heard this too. But I really do not see it. I want to believe it but I need someone to explain it to me.

What will make us that much better next year

I think Auburn will win pretty easily. Clemson is a good team I don't know why everyone is suddenly ripping Auburn for losing one game.

What makes you think Auburn will win easily in Starkville? Their last two wins there have been by 1 and 3 points.

We need to get you a sarcasmometer. It's okay, we're getting Bundy one too, there's nothing to be ashamed of.

I say if Auburn's defense looked anything like it did last week we win. What it'll come down to is if our offense can score, because I don't think Frazier can pass on our secondary and I think our DT's will do a much better job than Clemson of stopping the run. It'll be close but I say we pull out with it.

Because I think Auburn is a much more talented team that has MSU's number.

Improvement in the defense... takes more than one game against a VERY good offense with a lot of weapons. See UGA three years ago....
DEFENSE:
Brian VanGorder's first season at Georgia in 2001, gave up 23 points to Arkansas, 24 to Tennessee, 29 to Kentucky, 24 to Florida and 24 to Auburn. The next season, Georgia went 13-1, won the SEC.
Look at current UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. his first season, his defense gave 31, 24, 29, 31, 34 and 49 points. Last season, the Bulldogs won 10 straight games.
