This Is My Favorite Week of the Baseball Season And It's Not Even Close

I Know The Common Thought Is "The SEC Tournament Doesn't Matter". But to me it has everything:
Early morning baseball, late night baseball, crazy shite, and the best baseball conference in America. There will be as much talent in Hoover as there will be in Omaha.
Yes the tournament has lost a little luster with 16 team single elimination format but it's still going to be a great week.
Honestly the only thing I miss about CPM was how he seemed to take the SEC Tournament more seriously than other coaches which led to many deep tournament runs from LSU with 6 Tournament Championships in his tenure.
Great memories in Hoover!

Agree with everything you said especially this. I'd argue there is more talent in the sec tourney than in omaha.

I agree with ya. It kinda sucks that because so many SEC teams already have a spot in the NCAAs that they are saving arms for their Regionals, but the average RPI of the final 8 teams routinely is higher than the CWS participants.
And Hoover does a great job with it. Every time someone on here says it needs to move ask if they've been to Hoover for the tournament. You don't have to guess what their answer is.

Also South Carolina fears LSU in Hoover!

I went in 2016 and had the time of my life. Even went party in Downtown Birmingham and didn't get shot!
It was so funny that they couldn't sell alcohol in the stadium but when you go to the men's room their are 4,984,234 mini bottles laying around

A five day run in a tourney like this would be incredible.
Much harder than the basketball conference tourney.

quote:It has to be impossible. No one, especially the bottom 8 SEC teams, have 5 arms. Say the weekend starters do their part, you're still looking at a bullpen game for Day 4, then the Day 1 starter going on short rest in Day 5 with the bullpen taxed from the previous day.
A five day run in a tourney like this would be incredible.
If anyone does that, it is cup printing worthy to say the least.

You will get no argument from me. It's a great environment.
UF vs Bama a couple of years ago was one of my favorites, with Bama taking a 3 run lead in the top of the 11th, and UF walking it off with a homer in the bottom of the inning.

Sounds like it would be fun and some great baseball, for a while.
Clearly, not everyone has the same incentives. The potential for also-ran teams with limited pitching playing their 3rd game against a higher seed's 1st game could get ugly.
5 games in 5 days in kind of how the CWS used to be.
Good for teams that need to play well, and do play well.

I just enjoy having baseball on all day for a few days. Regional week and whip around coverage thereof is only matched by Masters week and the first weekend of CFB from a viewership standpoint.

Not one USC coach as ever taken Hoover seriously. Our record in Hoover is abysmal.

Regional week is better imo given the games mean more and there is action across the country
Watching bases loaded for regional games is awesome

Yeah the tournament doesn't mean anything to me but the fact that we have 3 baseball games a day every for a week is great. Perfect background for those that work from home.

DVH said the bracket is better but sounded like he will still be quick to give some of the youngsters the opportunity to play, rest the starters and see how it shakes out.

This is true, but your current coach has a kick arse record in Hoover.
Paul Mainieri has 6 SEC Tournament championships, tying him with Skip Bertman and Jim Wells for most by any coach.

Looking forward to this tourney and would love to go to Hoover but the regional weekend is my favorite.

Gamecocks are traditionally on our coast or waterways over Memorial Weekend - Hoover AL is not a destination -
the double-elim tourney did nothing but burn arms before NCAAs -
FTR - the one time Tanner tried to win Hoover - he did in 2004 -

pretty sure USC 14-15-1 in Red Stick all-time -
what's LSU's record vs Carolina in Omaha?
