Didn’t that Ole Miss team have DK Metcalf and AJ Brown?
It’s honestly incredible they weren’t better than how they finished that year.

That's because Freeze got busted and then Chad Kelly got hurt.

I looked it up - they had Evan Engram and Van Jefferson too. That is some serious receiving talent.

And they were extra motivated going into the UGA game after blowing big leads to both FSU and Bama.

That loss and that season taught me to never judge a head coach on his first season at a program. The leap from 2016 to 2017 was massive.
Ole Miss probably could have put 60 on us that day if they wanted to. We were not playing defense and we couldn't cover anything.

DK got hurt early in the first game against FSU.
Chad Kelly and several other future offensive nfl players.
They got up big on fsu and Alabama that year, looked like 3 in a row against Bama. Then the defense imploded and lost in the 2nd half.
Auburn you have a lot of ups and downs coming your way!

Those Jeremy Pruitt DBs.
All diamonds in the rough 3 stars.
It is amazing we went as far as we did in 2017 with them.

Well its been mostly downs for the last 3-4 years so that would be an improvement.

I remember watching this game and thinking "Holy shite, Kirby Smart is in way over his head." They could not do anything right and looked as poorly coached as any team I'd ever seen.
Little did I know
It was 45-0 at the end of the 3rd. Ole Miss could've picked the final score that day. I will give Hugh credit, he absolutely owned Kirby Smart by the end of his Ole Miss tenure. This was his 2nd straight game dropping 40+ on him.

They were true freshmen but yes, from a talent standpoint Ole Miss was loaded. DK broke his foot in the next game though so he didn't finish the year.
The defense could not adjust to other team's halftime adjustments and they'd lost a ton of starters/talent off that 2015 team. This team murdered UGA then turned around and lost to a mediocre Arky team.

I wouldn't call going 3-2 ownership and Kirby gave him a beatdown in '13, but I get your point.
As for Hugh and Georgia, he went 1-1, but his real victory was stealing Laremy Tunsil and Robert NKemdiche away from Richt.
