Yep best to wait until all the details come out to figure out who botched what. Considering I know the history of BRPD and their incompetence I could see them throwing a shite fit over him lawyering up.

looking at my old imageshack for that team sweep logo I made for the Jordan Jefferson case. Well it looks like imageshack deleted it, but I found my old TTstowel SP avatar.

And DDG's avatar after the 2011 SEC CG

No one seems to be considering the possibility that, even if Collins isn't a suspect and his "name is cleared", maybe associates or acquaintances of his are involved. That alone is enough to scare off NFL GMs, and rightfully so.

As someone in the Advertising, Marketing, and PR business, I can tell you that one of his biggest mistakes is not getting out ahead of this. He should never have been to Chicago in the first place. When he found out while in Atlanta that the BRPD was interested in speaking to him, he should have been back in BR.

IF (HUGE if) it is the BRPD that delayed the meeting, he and his attorney should have had a press conference on the steps of the BRPD and he should have made a brief statement YESTERDAY that would have gone something like this (not scrubbed yet, but you get the gist):

"I want this to be clear, I was not involved in any way in this situation. I knew Brittany Mills. She was a former girlfriend and someone I still cared about. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by all who knew her. I'm heartbroken that she's gone and I'm heartbroken that her baby will never know what a wonderful person she was. I want to help the BRPD in any way I can so they can find whoever did this and bring them to justice. We've offered to answer any questions and help today. They declined but we've scheduled a time to talk early next week. I look forward to that. At this time, my thoughts and prayers are with Brittany's family, and with her newborn child. I ask that you keep them in your prayers too. Thank you."

but according to a family member that knows the family, he's had the same gf since HS. Still with her, and she's alive and well.

This is exactly what I remembered.

How dare they let something as trivial as a murder investigation interfere with the NFL draft.

beyond physical talent, it seems like the ideal draft candidate NFL GMs look for is Brendan Fraser's character from "Blast from the Past"

-completely without guile
-no personal experience
-polite
-follows direction without question

The extent to which they overlook players who lack this tabula rasa persona is related entirely to performance. Of course, in the draft, everyone wants to get a buck for 50 cents so any reason for a guy to fall in the draft ends up becoming a reality.

This is also why Tebow and Michael Sam can't get a roster spot. The media sensationalizes it, acting like the reasons are completely different, but its actually the same reason.

Yea but message board posters are stupid. I would assume, NFL teams have access to better information than some rando posters.

I don't think this would be as big an issue if the same thing happened several years ago. However, domestic violence is the latest pink jersey.

I seriously doubt MURDER is being taken more seriously because Ray Rice punched his wife.

I don't see where the surprise is, seems like common sense to me.

He'll probably go late rounds with a throw away pick.

disagree. This is about uncertainty in a murder investigation. Domestic violence is an after thought in this situation.

Its a real shame for La'el Collins. Oh well, he should use it as motivation to get a monster second contract.

There are a bunch of teams that are going to regret not taking him. Three tackles taken last night and none as good as Collins.

I wouldn't subject myself to a lie detector, but if it was me I would have called my lawyer on first contact by the cops and then went to answer whatever questions with my lawyer. It would be insane to ever talk to the cops without a lawyer present on a serious matter like this. I feel like the cops probably called him, he probably called a lawyer shortly after and once he did that it made brpd upset that he would have the gaul to contact a lawyer and they released his name.

I'm not sure many people understand how investigations (much less murder investigations) actually are conducted. Trust me, detectives expect a person called in on a matter like this is going to retain legal counsel. They don't get "upset".

A good lawyer would tell you not to talk to the cops. So there's your first mistake. There is a good reason why lawyers for decades have counseled clients, innocent and guilty alike, not to speak with the police. The police can't "clear" you. The only thing talking to the police can do is help to convict you.

La'el is one of the good guys. He's not the kind of guy with a "thuggish" demeanor or behavior. Super nice, hard working, never been in trouble. Guy doesn't even have tattoos, not that that says much though.

Just saying, he is the last guy I would suspect to be involved in something like this. We have lots of players that have a lot more thug in them than La'el.

I would bet a lot of money he didn't have anything to do with this. I hope he is cleared soon, because this really sucks for him. He has already lost millions.

Too early to tell. He may have an alibi for his whereabouts, but NFL teams don't know that he is 100% in the clear. Prob doing a DNA test to see if he is the father. Especially if there is no other clear motive. Unfortunate situation

Unfortunately, the damage is already done for La'el. The difference between the #10 pick and the first second round pick (#33) is > $5 million. The difference between pick #33 and the last pick in the draft is < $3 million. The minimum UDFA salary is only 1 million less than that.

Worse, you could make some projections about how much that $5 mil would be worth if Collins had, say, gone on to invest most of it in stocks, mutuals, bonds, etc. The numbers would go up logarithmically, not linearly, which means, of course, that the more money you have the more money you make.

To put it simply, La'el already lost more money than he stands to lose going forward. He will never make it back. That life is over and I feel really bad for him.

Read between the lines:

1. A murder has occurred.
2. La'el has had a relationship with the person.
3. The baby is very likely his.
4. The Police have information that need questioning.
5. The Police want answers from La'el on the information they have.
6. La'el has retained the services of one of the best defense attorney's in the state of LA.
7. NFL Security has hired PI's and they have more information than the media and public.
8. La'el is falling like a rock in the draft and NFL teams don't want to touch him right now. There are serious reasons why.

Bottom Line: This is a very serious situation. No one knows anything concrete, but let's just say I'm not defending La'el nor am I convicting him. There are some very serious questions that need to be answered. That is all.
