It uses one poll set by preseason standards. It also uses a poll that isn't. Said second poll is a copy and paste job of the first poll.
Further exacerbating the fundamental problem with the BCS

My point is that the BCS formula is flawed because it uses a poll that's set by preseason predictions.
I don't think that is a big of a flaw as you think. Auburn was very much unranked in preseason polls and are now the highest ranked 1 loss team.

There will be haters for the new system. Baylor would be hating if there were 4 teams.

I didn't have a problem with the BCS. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than anything we've ever had. There is no perfect way to determine a champion in college football, that's one reason it is so popular - the debate. The new playoff is a step backwards where we're going to have a few nimrods with heavy bias deciding who gets in.

I still don't think y'all should have been in that game. Oklahoma started #2 and went undefeated. SEC was weak that year as well.

Well, the point is that we don't KNOW that the best team won the BCS that year (2004).

Auburn had 4 players go in the top 10 of the draft that year, with plenty of talent left. Utah (led by Urban legend) prison raped everyone they played. Definitely 2004 was a flawed year, IMO.

Right, a playoff wouldn't force Bama to beat Ok St to make it to the title game in 2011. It would not have forced ND to beat Oregon in 2012.

It would not fix these issues at all

2004 AU would have crushed Oklahoma, just like USC did. It was a garbage year.

I don't think it'd happen again, especially to AU, but it does recognize there can be real problems with the system.

Which is fine. The playoff still doubles the number of teams with an opportunity to earn a national title on the field. It still will force teams to beat two elite opponents rather than only one. It still will enhance postseason college football.

Take 2011 for example. Is there anyone who wouldn't want to see the winners of LSU/Stanford (or maybe Oregon) and Bama vs Ok St face off for it all?

We get three great matchups rather than only one.

I wasn't watching football back then, but what about 2003 and 2008 U.S.C.? 2008 Oklahoma got picked over 2008 Texas in the BCS Standings.
Did 2000 Miami deserve a nod over Florida State for the national championship?

Are you still denying that 2011 Alabama > 2011 LSU?
You can argue that the rematch shouldn't have happened, but the OP's argument was that the best team each year won the BCS National Championship.

Surely you don't believe that 2011 Oklahoma State was better than 2011 Alabama? Oklahoma State did not have a good defense. A few of those drives that ended in field goal attempts versus LSU on 1/9/12 would have been touchdowns versus Oklahoma State. Stanford gave Oklahoma State fits in the Fiesta Bowl. Stanford wasn't on Alabama's level then.

Once the playoff expands to 8 teams it will be perfect.

Hopefully the get rid of the committee as well when this happens.

A 4 team playoff fixes 2004 type drama when you go undefeated in a major conference. If you lose a game, then it is politics. We were a better team than Chocklahoma, but the eye test criteria did not come into play until 2011.

Just because LSU shat the bed in one game doesn't mean Alabama was the better team that season. LSU had a much more impressive season. I'm not gonna say they were definitively better, but it's too close to call IMO.
