That's not what's weird. It's the fact that not two months ago they wanted this man fired.

We wanted him fired because he hadn't been able to prove he could win the big games.

Then he beat #1 Georgia and #1 Alabama in the span of three weeks. Then it was a 6 point ballgame in the 4th quarter against that very good Georgia team when they ran away with it.

He proved he's worth keeping.

completely in agreeance with A&M spending whatever it takes to get a championship coach, I’m jelly. But as far as Auburn’s case, willing to pay =/= worth

If the ball bounces differently, it’s Gus that has the NC and not Jimbo. Doesn’t change the kind of coaches that they are... the ceiling for both is very high, but they each have flaws.

Imo, AU is in better shape with its deal that A&M... but time will tell.

LSU spent nearly 4 million and a 12M Buyout on a coach absolutely no other school wanted.

This is way more crazy than anything Auburn did.

I am beginning to think the real reason they got rid of Les was because they realized they did not have the money to keep him.

Yeah that's exactly why. All you gotta look at is the fact LSU athletic department annual revenue is in the top 5 in the country and the fact that our OC and DC are the highest paid in the country. Your hypothesis is supported by so many facts it's ridiculous man.

Next year both of these games are on the road. There will be no Jordan Hare magic for Gus. The disgruntled fans will be back out in force.

This shite is just so lazy.

The fans wanted Gus gone because he blew the LSU game. This happens to every single team after their coach blows a big game. It happens to Alabama even when Saban didn't really do anything wrong (admittedly only by a few emotional morons).

But nonetheless, when the coach is held out for blame for a loss, fans don't go "oh but he's soooo good most of the time" - they act like fans. Auburn fans are fickle, and they're especially fickle when their team is up and down, which is always. So are any other SEC fans.

Gus probably isn't worth 7m in a vacuum, but is he worth 7m in a year where he wins 10/11 games, Dan Mullen gets 6.1m and there are a shite ton of teams looking for a coach? Yeah, he probably is.

Once the big TV deals were inked with the Networks this was inevitable. Just like in the NBA, new TV money 3 years later increased spending in Free Agency. Eventually the money always trickles down.

It will be interesting to learn if Gus new deal actually changes his buyout amount. Just giving him more money per season was a smart plan because not many if any elite coaches on the market as of today. If Steele gets the UT job then the barn is running uphill. Both Will and Steele saved Gus.
