If the city wasn't a shithole it'd be near perfect in terms of location. Sorry to all the Jacksonites I offended.

I realize that much.

So 28th compared to 47th...ok a lot closer. Birmingham politics fwiw is the bigger holdup from my understanding.

Jackson is probably the center of the SEC WEST... the SEC East... not so much.

Birmingham, geographically makes the most sense. Atlanta is less than 2 hours from Bham and has the facilities to handle crowds, ergo it gets the SECCG every year.

I like the idea in theory, but going to Jackson is hardly a reward.

Meridian/Lauderdale County needs a vision. Build an 80,000 seat dome near the I20/59 interchange at US45. Host the SECCG and probably the Super Bowl one day.

@Duke:

Alamodome opened in 1993. In 1990, San Antonio's MSA was about 1.3 million, which is about what Birmingham's is today.

The comparison is spot on.

Thanks for playing, though.

I did just claim politics was the bigger issue in my last post you know...I was just getting at you for trying to compare Birmingham to San Antonio.

I agree, i love the history with the Georgia dome, but they should rotate the SEC championship to Nashville, Birmingham, NOLA, maybe even Jackson.

To the Longhorn who asked about distance. It is 60 miles from Gainesville and 360 miles from Athens...so not exactly halfway. However, I would be more in favor of a home and home if they moved the game out of Jax. I like Jax, though, and have no problem keeping it there as long as the SEC guarantees that both teams are given either home or away SEC games the week before. Although there were many problems with GA in the 90s, I DO think that Spurrier lobbying for an off week righty before the game was a HUGE advantage. As far as I can remember in this latest run, the years UGA has won, UF has not had an off week the week before except for last year when both teams had to play. In the Dooley years, UGA often had this same advantage. I am guessing if someone actually looked back over the years, THIS would be a very telling statistic.

Living in Metro Jackson, and working downtown, I would love to see the SECCG in Jackson, but Veteran's Memorial wouldn't be a good venue. UM Medical Center would love to get its hands on the land where the stadium now sits. The stadium is outdated and not large enough, and it is much more likely that it will be torn down with a new stadium (probably smaller capacity) for Jackson State on or near its campus being built in the future.

And while the Jackson metro has increased its hotel capacity and there are a number of good restaurants, etc., Jackson would be hard pressed to be able to accomodate two large non-Mississippi fan bases in town at the same time.

True, but Austin MPA is just a short drive away from S.A., and that's another sizeable market.

San Antonio MSA was probably smaller than Birmingham is now when they built their dome.

One key difference--Tejas state population>>>>>AL state population. Much larger numbers to draw people from.

+1. B12 does it and seems to work well with KC, Dallas, S.A., & Houston. I'd substitute Tampa for B'ham & Memphis for Jackson, though.

Wow....so it's not a neutral site by any stretch of the imagination. Are the tickets evenly distributed between the schools like they are for the RRS?

Yes. Half the stadium is a glorious orange and blue while the other half is a hideous red and black.

It is neutral. Everybody gets the same amount of tickets and there is as many Georgia fans if more than Gators on the streets. South Georgia is UGA central.

I can't take credit for this idea, but it is genius. If UGA wants to play in the Georgia Dome, say ok, we are still playing in Jax and we will give you the same amount of tickets you give us at the Dome and the difference 15k will go to Gator fans. I wonder how happy UGA fans would be if we did that? Our AD has stated numerous times will play in Jax no matter what UGA does.

I do find it funny that Dooley flat out admits the reason for the talks is because they can't win. The vast majority of Gator Fans live south of Gainesville, and I would venture to guess a majority of Georgia fans don't live in Athens. So as far as fanbases go it is a pretty neutral site.

Speaking of that, isn't VSU building a new stadium? Play it there

and remind the rest of Georgia how big of a shithole the southern part of the state is

San Antonio has a lot more going on than Birmingham. Not a good comparison.

NOLA is a no go imo, because the team that wins will likely be back in a month for the Sugar Bowl. Nashville's concern is weather. Think about the 1st SEC Championship in Birmingham. Nashville, as you may or may not know as a State guy, is north of Birmingham.

Since when can football not be played outdoors. Nashville would be a good alternate.

When you account for the quality facilities, the only options seem to be Atlanta, Nashville, Jacksonville, NOLA.
