Finally got around to watching it, and I will say it was pretty freaking good. I think I liked it more than the original animated, and I love those movies.
The casting is great. Hiccup did a really good job. Gerard Butler is perfect. Toothless is perfectly done. The special effects are great.
Laced with beautiful scenes throughout.
The original animated film is a favorite of mine, and it didn't need a remake, but as far as "live action" remakes go, it was miles better than the crap Disney has been putting out there. There was much ado about the biracial British actress cast as Astrid, but she wasn't terrible. She starts off as the typical girl boss type character that Hollywood loves to populate movies with, but she softens considerably over the course of the film. The rest of the cast was spot on and the dragons were awesome. Toothless was perfect. Overall, it's a fun watch.

I recommend everyone read it at least once.
I’ve read it multiple times. It truly is “ the great American novel.” Take the story of Cain and Abel and set in in the Salinas Valley of California in the early days of the 1900’s and bang! Such a great story. Cathy Ames is one of literature’s great villains.

Old school ice skating fans know the French judges are shite.
Yep. They screwed the Canadians out of the pairs gold medal in SLC. There was an investigation and duplicate gold medals were awarded to both the Russians(who the French judge cheated for) and the Canadian pair. They should do the same thing for Chock and Bates.

He has a substantial lead doesn’t he? If so, it will be hard to cheat unless he falls apart during the long program.

It looks like Francesca will be the sister who is gay, not Eloise. They gender swapped Francesca’s love interest. In the book it’s a man named Michael. In the series it’s a woman named Michaela.

Seems to me that there should be a impartial judge who steps in for pairs that match countries with a judge.
If the US files a complaint, there will be an investigation, but likely that will be the end of it. I knew the fix was in after the rhythm dance. Such a shame for Chock and Bates. This will be their final Olympics. Cizeron won before with Gabby Pakadakis. He didn't need another gold medal.
The French couple made a mistake, albeit a minor one, but it was enough to be noticed by the commentators. The Americans were pretty much perfect, but were scored nine points lower (that's a huge margin in figure skating) by the French judge. I don't see how that doesn't warrant an investigation. That's the textbook definition of cheating.
Ice dance was France's only shot at a figure skating medal. They won't sniff the podium in any of the other categories.

Seems a little soon, right? The Darabont movie (which was excellent) isn't even 20 years old.
There was also a TV series in 2017.

SPOILERS:
I think they gender-swapped the character for the series. It's a dude in the novel.

Definitely. Anyone who watched that shite would concur
Yep. It wouldn't be figure skating at the Olympics without a judging scandal. Surprise....surprise....the French judge gave the Americans their lowest marks and scored the French couple a full 2 points higher than their previous personal best. The fix is in. It's a shame because I really like Chock and Bates a lot. Great skaters and they seem like really nice people too.

The French woman on their ice dancing team and especially her skimpy outfit was worth the watch today. My. Goodness that azz was spectacular.
The French couple are going to win the ice dance gold medal. The judges have set the stage for them to upset Chock and Bates. The Americans were underscored today despite the French couple making a minor mistake. We will medal in every figure skating category but pairs, but I have a weird feeling that we will only win one gold, and that will be Malinin.

Agreed. They are representatives of the United States, not their LGB$%(*$%((* neighborhood.
I'm actively rooting against them and their idolatry of all things politics.
Amber Glenn goes on a rant about how tough it is to be queer in America, but none of the other gay figure skaters felt the need to open their mouths, which made her look like an ungrateful bitch.
The married ice dance couple (Chock & Bates) meanwhile gush over how blessed and honored they are to be representing the USA, a county they love so much.

It was for the figure skating team event. The commentators said that Malinin may not even skate the long program. My money is still on him when they get to the actual individual skating event.
re: Skeletor will be the embodiment of "toxic masculinity"
Posted by LouisianaLonghorn on 2/7/26 at 1:55 pm to Jor Jor The Dinosaur
To these fools, being a strong man equals toxic masculinity. They're giving Adam a sassy black sidekick, so I guess inserting more political messaging was inevitable. Keldor (Skeletor) was KIng Rador's evil power-hungry brother. I assume they're going this route with his backstory.

Sadly, LSU never got the light show even close to that level of greatness ever again.

It’s not going to be what you think…the novel is about teenage love and Robbie, while hot as frick, is two decades too old for this part.
Yep. Heathcliff and Cathy are teenagers in the novel. This looks to be a highly sexualized take on the source material with two people who, despite both being great actors, are way too old for the parts they’re playing.

This was a great little rom-com. Kind of in the Definitely Maybe vibe if you like that. Has the laughs, the feels, and you may end up getting some afterwards.
It's based on Emily Henry's novel of the same name. My wife convinced me to read the book and I liked it. I also enjoyed the movie. They had to cut out the number of flashbacks, but they kept the best ones in, namely NOLA. The dance scene to Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl was fantastic. The actors had great chemistry and, even though they don't physically resemble the way Alex and Poppy are written in the book, they do them justice. Having the final scene be a recreation of the book's iconic cover was genius. Although some of the movie is set in Ohio, they filmed in NOLA and you can tell.

She was gorgeous. I remember the scene where she has the green suit on.
Once of the few modern updates to a classic story that actually remains very faithful to the source material.

This. Also, if we're gonna have a light show, then make it a good one. Ours is so pathetic compared to those at other SEC schools. I get it, we went with MMR for a kick back and they gave us a shitty product, but surely we can figure out a way to maximize what we have.

The falcon at the beginning looks to be Zoar (Sorceress’s bird form). They also show her briefly from behind in one scene. Rumor is that Orko will make an appearance, as will She-Ra.
