That's not what he was doing. He said that there were over 50 players who transferred out before he got there. AU had only like 35 players on scholarship.

That certainly explains why they were inconsistent last year. It doesn't seem to explain why they appear to have gotten worse.

1. Saban attempted to higher Hugh and was prevented from doing so by the SEC (nice self own) LINK .
2. Hugh wasn’t hired for beating Alabama 9 years ago he was hired because he can recruit with the best. Which he is doing (see the 2025 top 10 in the state you share with him)
