If the gameplan didn't include "under no circumstances will Payton Thorne read LBs with an option to throw the ball short over the middle with a one-score lead under 5:00 to play," it wasn't that great.

re: Texas 10.5 wins - - OU 7.5 wins

Yeah, they did try to balance the schedules. There's no conspiracy.

But what should have been a balanced schedule most times in the last 10 years is all out of whack now because (a) Ole Miss and Mizzou broke the bank to have their best rosters of all time by miles, and (b) Florida is suddenly arse my dude.

The assumption that 2024 would be similar to the last 10 years was a bad one.

What's completely indefensible is seeing how lopsided this turned out, and deciding to just run it back in 2025.

There's been football outside the Saban era.

SEC AP titles post-WWII

Alabama - 12
Oklahoma - 7
Texas, Florida, Georgia, LSU - 3
Auburn, Tennessee - 2

I don't even disagree but just leave them to it. Let them get all gassed up because they poached a guard and caused OU to only go 4/5 on top DL targets the past year. Spending all that money and still under 50% blue chips in the SEC. Sooner or later this BS scheduling is finally going to flip on them.
Shhhhhhh. They're back, don't question it. Pay no attention to the high draft pick DTs, the 4.21 guy, and the guy who was better than the 4.21 guy. Texas is back.
What did UT pay to poach the guy we recruited over in that deal?
Riley is out to lunch but I think most neutrals ding Saban’s Bama for almost always playing those sterile neutral site openers instead of true road environments. Doesn’t take anything away from how great his teams were, they proved it, but it cut out what makes OOC matchups great for the fans.

In the same period when Bama was doing those for 10 years straight, OU won in Tallahassee, South Bend, Knoxville, and Columbus. Every one was a classic with the crowd absolutely juiced.

To Saban’s credit he did do home-and-home with Penn State very early in his tenure and Texas at the end.

How did OU get involved here? We just got out of a lopsided situationship with a #3 rival and we're not ready to get into another one yet. Got our hands full with rival #1 deciding to be "back" right now.

Someone needs to start a second P4 school in Missouri so they can leave us all alone.
Non-CFP bowl games mean even less than they used to. Not even scrimmages between next year's teams as some guys are still auditioning for the portal or will be supplanted by portal pickups. Just throw those out.

But the middle tier of the SEC has always underperformed outside the conference relative to its huge NFL talent advantage over every other league. Mississippi schools, Auburn, Arky, etc. should be pasting zero-draft-pick OOC opponents 90% of the time and it just hasn't been that way. Mike Gundy or Gary Patterson could conquer the world with rosters that SEC schools routinely take to 7-5 and a bowl loss.
USC barely has a home field advantage in their own stadium.

These guys drive only as stupid as I've seen people drive every single time I've had the misfortune of passing through Atlanta. Absolute Mad Max stuff out there. What football-based punishment is Kirby going to hand out to make them think twice, if their teammate dying didn't do the job?

The internal emails asking staffers not to drink before driving specifically when driving recruits and their families, with the implication it's often done at other times, is a pretty bad look, I'll give you that. We know y'all do this, just don't endanger the 5*s...
OU Norman holds about $1B in debt from a bunch of recent construction. Seems like a lot but if you’d seen the old dorms and stuff…it had to happen.

On topic, guess which fan base this discourse has come from once again? The University of Texas system with nine schools holds about $11B.

OU’s athletic department has been one of the few in the black for many, many years and the SEC makes the margin that much bigger.
I will admit I can't make a case for you liking Texas, A&M, or Mizzou, but y'all will have to send the whole Confederate army to make OU go back to home slates of UCF-WVU-TCU.

I mean yeah, but what are they supposed to do about it? Oil money is far and away the best thing they've got going for them, and just spending less isn't likely to make them better at anything.
Lol...I can't attest to what they do out there in Le Flore County and such, but I've been told, and seen for myself, that Oklahoma's home crowd is way too tame for the SEC. Arky fans can't seriously be saying OU fans are a threat to public safety after they've gone to Baton Rouge and College Station all these years.

Bookmark it or whatever you do on this site. When Tennessee and Bama come here, the consensus from their visitors is gonna be "very welcoming but not quite as intimidating as we thought."
There’s Texas picking on Davis Beville. They were so happy. I wonder if anyone still wears those 49-0 shirts.
Same, if OU’s bats can’t get after a freshman who threw them 130 pitches for 7 hits, 7 BB, 4 K yesterday, then let’s just bow out now to a likable UF squad and not give Mikey the satisfaction
I’m glad you feel that way. But OU’s staff hasn’t been pushed by anybody like UF’s lineup since the Big 12 tournament, and they’ve had a few shaky stretches. Even Maxwell. I expect it to be very competitive.
