A logical person would look at that population data and the success of Florida football and realize that there is little correlation between population and success. If there were Florida would have been killing it the last 15 seasons. There is a strong correlation between who the coach is and success. Spurrier and Meyer obviously had success. So did Charlie Pell in the early 1980’s.

If your hypothesis were correct that would have been impossible.

Florida went 4-8 last season. They went 9-1-1 in 1984. Last season the population of Florida was more than double what it was in 1984.

Do you really think these transplants, the majority white snow birds from the northeast and upper midwest, are producing many SEC level football players?

Very basic logic.

It is. It is easy to see that there is little correlation between Florida’s population and their record.

Texas: Usually claims the #1 spot for active players in a given season, consistently placing around 190 to 200+ players on opening weekend rosters.Florida: A massive producer of pro talent. Over the last decade, Florida has actually topped the list for the most NFL draft picks overall.California: Ranks among the very top for both active players and historical NFL

I think you are correct, coaches get and keep the good players from their states. The 3 states that lead in # of players Florida-Texas and California are not dominating college football and all 3 are large states

California: ~39.4 millionTexas: ~31.7 millionFlorida: ~23.5 millionNew York: ~20.0 millionPennsylvania: ~13.1 millionIllinois: ~12.7 millionOhio: ~11.9 millionGeorgia: ~11.3 millionNorth Carolina: ~11.2 millionMichigan: ~10.1 million

Florida is a top producer of NFL talent and possibly split between 3 big named schools being Miami-Florida-Florida St,

Florida schools should be winning more football championships but Texas and California are not winning either

So you statement about population and success is correct

They settled the championship on the field. LSU won and yes on this list they are way ahead of your sad little Vols. 1998. 9 in a row

OU does not claim 1967.

Yeah I’m an idiot, it was USC

On 1967... USC was voted national champion in the two wire service polls...

Tennessee and Oklahoma were named national champions in some of those other obscure rankings.

Tennessee and Oklahoma kind of got screwed in the wire polls because they both lost early in the season and USC lost late... but USC's game was considered a fluke because "it was muddy" in Corvallis.

Back in the Bowl/Poll era...one of the things that sucked about it was sometimes teams got penalized for losing late... sometimes they didn't. That year... USC didn't. However, some of the reason for that is because USC beat the two teams that beat Tennessee and Oklahoma (UCLA, Texas).

Tennessee really got screwed that year. They hadn't lost since their opening game and got jumped by USC for some reason at the end of the season, despite USC having a bad loss. People forget how anti-SEC the national media was to the South back then.
