Paid attendance, and actual attendance are two different things but you know that.

They started a petition to fire him halfway through his second year! They were pissed about Pearl and Martin was unfortunate enough to follow the most beloved coach they'd ever had. Any coach would have been met with resistance, and while he was actually building a good program there the fans simple werent having it. Martin wasnt running around shirtless at Lady Vol games. Pearl had endeared himself to Vol fans on such a level that noone else was going to do. He still improved despite the resistance within his own ranks.

He didnt get a fair shake there. Didnt get the support he needed, was hampered by recruiting restrictions and eventually had enough and bolted.

I see the same type of arguments from the UGA posters sometimes. "We fired Richt cause he underachieved with the talent he had. Kirby did bad his first year walked into a rebuild!" Well which one is it? Was the talent there or does Kirby suck?

Lol exactly

Did not engage with the fanbase, had zero energy, did not reach out across other sports like most coaches do, played the most boring basketball style imaginable, and didn't have his teams playing well until the last couple games of the season. He did everything he could do be the opposite of Pearl despite the fact that coaches like Pearl resonate with fanbases like Tenn.

And the petition youre talking about was in his 3rd year WHEN IT LOOKED LIKE HE MISSED THE TOURNAMENT for the 3rd year in a row.

You are carrying the damn fight itt. Jesse is showing his lack of knowledge re: basketVOLS. The Tennessee fanbase actually loved Cuonzo early on in his tenure contrary to what Quesadilla and Bomani Jones think.

I do hope Missouri hires him for multiple reasons. 1. Because they will never win anything of consequence with him and 2. It will be hilarious to see how Cuonzo paints SJW U as racists when they inevitably turn on him

Purdue went to 2 Final Fours

Mizzou has yet to go to a Final Four

Purdue > Mizzou when it comes to coaching jobs.

You're the one that brought Pearl into this. I was saying that despite the evidence that the fanbase would respond to him reaching out, he went the other way with it and acted basically like a turtle. So not only were we losing, we were dealing with a brown paper bad at the press conference afterwards. That stuff does not fly at a non-traditional bball school like UT you need energy.

Yea, actual I do, as someone who watched a lot of Tennessee games those years. I'm sure you know from experience too, right? I'm sure you were glued to games of a team in another league that wasn't on the national radar.

There isn't a Missouri basketball fan on this board who kept up closely with Tennessee for Martin's first 2 years. They don't know dick.

Missouri could do much better than Martin. Would be a missed opportunity unless he's the only one interested.

That's a meh hire if it happens.

I'm confused, will he and Frank Martin be co-head coaches?

Cuonzo, Martin, and Marshall as a triple-headed monster of a head coach. They all want to be at Mizzou so bad they're willing to share the title of HC.

All these things explain why Martins future was set up to fail long term, but he never made it that far

None of these excuses explain how he underachieved in the short term. Only making 1 NCAAT in 3 years w/ 3 future NBA players is similar to Johnny Jones w Ben Simmons

I am NOT hoping to get him.
I think it's a swing and a whiff.

He is reportedly mulling over an offer now.
Sauces.

All you have to do is hop on Twitter and you can see how ready the Cal fans are for him to get the hell out of town.

It's a 3 year process with Martin. He underachieves and then starts to catch major heat for underachieving and then bails to the next school.
