Mingione pitched by committee today against Ball State.

ETA: LSU fans have a right to melt, I'd be pissed starting Skenes against the weakest team in your region.

Should've thrown Hurd in Game 1 and Skenes in Game 2

We've never thrown our ace in game one of a regional in which we were the 1 seed (15 times) in the current format. That should tell you something about this decision.

The only time we've thrown our ace in game 1 of any regional we hosted was back in 1999 was when we hosted as a #2 and were facing Ben Sheets pitching for ULM

So what’s the reasoning behind it?

I can’t think of any reason other than just to keep him on schedule. But at this point it’s the post-season, you’ve gotta say frick the schedule a bit.

That's a great question. Jay will inevitably give a coach speak response to that question after the game

I would assume most are starting their #1 BUT they aren't facing a 19 - 40 team at home.

Even that doesn't make much sense since everyone else is getting thrown off.

I'd hope we aren't since win or lose we're playing UConn or Texas Tech tomorrow.

Maybe record wise. But you don't think this Tulane team is better than some of the past SWAC championship teams and other smaller conference champions? Not saying I agree with the decision, but I don't think Tulane is the weakest team in the history of the tournament.

Alabama is starting Holman. So technically yes. Alabama is starting their ace.

TBH it is a bit of a head scratcher to put Skenes out vs Tulane. I can see why plenty of people don’t like it.
