"A pandora's box : Exactly. There have already been comments by the various plaintiff attys involved in this issue to the effect that this is just the start. This is not going to stop with this one issue centric ruling. This just opens the door. And if anyone thinks Title IX litigation won't result, you're very naive. I am no fan of Saban but recognize him as an expert when it comes to college football & he is saying this is bad news with a capitol B. People are looking at this with a short term perspective. This is just the start.

Why do you keep equating business to college amateurism?

Why should my taxes be subsidizing a university’s athletic budget. Let them fold

Instead of figuring out how to compensate the players, I would love to see each and every sport have full scholarships for each and every player on their rosters.

Then you aren’t being realistic.

Why can’t they be viewed the same way?

Right now this is true of only college football and basketball. Each scholarship is worth the SAME dollar amount. But once schools start letting a few players capitalize on their own self then they aren't and that will ultimately lead to fractured locker rooms.

I really don't like what this does to college football. Only a handful of schools will be able to compete.

They are, only if you consider a scholarship (and other benefits (room & board, health insurance, food)) being the same as a salary. When a player accepts a scholarship, it's the same as accepting a position and it's perks with a corporation. No more, no less.

Your first argument was that the NFL was business. Then you said you'd love to see the Chiefs whole OL refuse to play because they make less than Pat Mahomes. Then I compared that to business.

So I was comparing business (your definition) to business.

It won’t be the school paying. It won’t even be the booster club, necessarily. It’ll be sponsors, like Nike, who use the players “likeness” to make money, then pay the players a percentage. Pandora’s Box has been opened and this, coupled with the transfer portal, will be the beginning of the end for college amateur sports. Players will flock to teams and areas where they can get the most revenue.

Yeah, Oregon with endless Nike money to buy all California recruits. Never ending money with Nike.

This just moves money above the table. I do think the smaller schools will suffer because now the third string defensive end at a bigger school is risk free to be paid and likely with more potential sources.

I realize that. So wouldn't you say a kid out of high school accepting a scholarship is the same as Mahomes signing a contract. But the way to keep it even keeled in college is to make each scholarship worth the same amount of compensation for each player. Why do they have salary caps in most professional sports?

This will change the structure of scholarships. If a kid is getting paid and he doesn't perform - there has to be a termination clause in the scholarship - just like getting "cut" or "released" by the NFL or NBA.

That's definitely a possibility. With more reward comes more risk. I'm not sure that everyone thought through that part of equation when they pushed for this, but they'll find it out soon enough.

Because there are 4 other players on the court with said player and I've never seen a TEAM win with just one player playing. Why should he get $500 extra dollars from Jack's when the practice squad guy he practices against everyday has to work a part time job because he's not on scholarship?

This has to be explained to you?

Life is not equal. I was a poor arse walkon. I had nothing but love for my scholarship teammates.

So that certain teams can't spend 10x as much money as other ones and theoretically win every season. Doesn't really have anything to do with how much each player makes.

Salary caps actually make the discrepancy between highest and lowest paid players on teams in a lot of sports much, much higher. Super teams are built around maximizing 2-3 guys and then filling out the roster with league minimum guys (the Heat with LeBron, Wade, Bosh as a primary example). 3 guys making League Max money and 10 guys making League Minimum money.

All you idiots who don't see the handwriting on the wall are in for a big surprise. Here's an example: UAB - a world class medical school with an enrollment of 22K and that school will have to completely shutters it's athletic department by 2022. There is ZERO way for UAB to make enough money to pay the "going market price rate" for even 3* players. And their fanbase will not step up and offer the administration an unlimited amount of money to try. It's over for schools like UAB and especially FCS schools. They were drowning before this happened. Now they are as useless as tits on a foghorn.

You can hide from it, pretend it didn't happen, and run like Forest Gump but it won't change the fact college football is now Pro Football and players expect to be paid and will shop around until they get what they want - and that won't be at UAB.
