LSU should be grateful they had saban instead of bitching about him all the time.

Bryant came back to UA because he had been a player there in the 30's. He had success at Maryland, Kentucky, and at A&M before the return in '58.
Saban wouldn't have come in '07 if it hadn't been for 2 things. Saban gets the QB he wanted, Brees and if Mike Shula had listened to Mal Moore and made some changes to the staff and turn over play calling. He took the advice of Ray Perkins and it led to his demise.

to have the 2 greatest coaches ever in college football.

Is it just luck, is it the beauty of Tuscaloosa, is it the highschools putting out the talent, or is it the donors.I mean how lucky can 1 school be.

One probably lead to the other. Alabama was a very respectable program before Bear took over, but not really mentioned in the same breath with national powers like Notre Dame, USC, and the top of the Big 10. That is not an insult mind you. It is just how it was back then.

Bryant changed that in a big way winning several national titles and probably had another couple of titles he should have won but for the bias against SEC teams.

Even though Alabama was not world beaters after Bryant passed away (though Stallings had some incredible teams and won a natty) the fans and money were still there for a big coach to do extremely well. When it came open it was the ultimate steak and blowjob coaching position on the market that year.

And it just so happened that Saban was looking to get back into college coaching... that year.

A bit of luck and a bit of Bryant building the foundation of Alabama being perceived as the football power of the modern age.

Saban doesn't have an offseason. That's why he's the GOAT.

It's just a bama thing...no other university can compete with our heritage. The best attract the best.

Both of those coaches also benefited tremendously coaching for Bama. Bama elevates the performance of their coaches more than any program in college football. Bama's had some really poor coaches over the years but they haven't gone more than six years without a top 10 finish since the 1950s. No other program comes even close to matching that feat. Mike Shula had a ten win season and a top 10 finish at Bama and Mike Dubose won a conference championship. Can you see either coach accomplishing those feats at any other program?

Lol, never thought of that. LSU/saints fans got Brees, we got Saban. Both sides win.

Meh. Saban was an average (8-4 average) coach before Bama.

Take away Saban and Bryant from the record books at Bama and you have,

A program with 6 national titles, plenty of conference titles and all-americans which puts them on par with Oklahoma or Ohio State.

LSU and Auburn on the other hand...

Bama is nothing without their great coaches.

Take away all the national championship winning coaches, and Alabama has a grand total of ZERO national titles.

That doesn't look good on a t shirt, does it?

Remember when Urban Meyer surpassed Saban as the best coach in college football a few years back?
