Not really. It takes more than one successful season to be a good coach. I'm not saying Chizik is a bad coach, but I believe it will take a few more years before we can really peg him. Let's see how he adjusts to getting new coordinators.

Head Coaches are as good as their coaching staff.

Out of all of these guys and chizik, who has done the most in the shortest period of time. Not just including hc position?

Please, give me a break. He lands Cam, Nick F and had an experienced Oline. My dead grandmother could coach that group and win.
When a team he builds from the ground up wins something significance then he gets props otherwise consider him the beneficiary of Cam's miracle comebacks.

Auburn was a one trick pony last year with Newton and Fairley....a blind squirrel could have coached that team.

Thanks for answering the question. And of all the coaches listed in my question only 2 have done what you said.

Another way to look at it: He was good enough to recruit Gus and hire Cam.

Gene's fate long term will be decided over the next two seasons.

First, there are the two big hires that he now has to make. They are going to go a long way in determining the direction of our program. Second, there will be other staff turnover that we will have to deal with. I would expect to lose some combination of Luper, Trooper and Thigpen over the next couple of years as they have opportunities as coordinators etc. elsewhere. Those are our heavy hitting recruiters, so how that is dealt with will determine alot.

Finally, in 2011 to an extent, but for sure in 2012, youth and depth issues cause by the end of Tubs tenure will no longer be a valid reason for lack of success. He's going to have to win.

As long as Saban is at Bama he will never beat Bama again and atleast for the next 3 to 4 yrs he won't beat LSU. Cam Newton type player only comes along every 10 to 15 yrs for a program like Auburn. He will be fired with-in the next 5 yrs and be another one hit wonder.

I don't really understand the rationale of this statement. Cam Newton's certainly don't come along all the time. But certainly if you are going to attribute all the success he has had to the players, some of the failure must lay with them too. Auburn in 2009 and 2011 was dealing with a severe shortage of SEC caliber players at most positions, and this past year was playing with probation type numbers. Not to mention losing 17/22 starters and playing arguably the toughest schedule in the country. He has yet to be able to show what he can do with a fully stocked cupboard. He is putting one together now, with 3 top-5 classes and another top-10 on the way. How he does with those guys will determine his future.

and "a program like Auburn"?? Don't let the last 8 years go to your head. When has LSU ever had a Cam Newton?

It is truly scary how some football fans are so absolutely retarded, and they actually think they know something about football. It's funny how people just rehash what they hear, and they usually get it all wrong anyway.

This site has many good posters, objective and intelligent. It also has many of the opposite.

Chizik had a rough stint at ISU as a HC. Everyone knows his record there. I'm certain everyone expected him to take the ISU world beaters to the NC game his second year. But it just didn't happen.

As a DC he has put nothing but good/great defenses on the field.
