I would say that's the case for all coaches (or anyone else famous to the locals)

The rest of the country does or should feel sorry for AU for even being associated with the mouth breathers that make up the majority of the bama fanbase.
Feel free to disassociate yourself anytime little bro. AU has made its name by swinging on our nuts for far to long.

The extremist fringe, they represent like <1% of the fan base and seem to be the only people you ever hear from.
For most schools, yes. Alabama, like 10-15%. And another 35% who thinks Harvey Updyke is admirable.

This is SO true. The ONE year they finally ascended to the top of college football it is sandwiched between our dynamic run.
God must hate auburn even worse than I do.

Saban probably thinks 10% of the bama fanbase is great and some of the best college football fans in the country. Passionate, knowledgeable fans and good people.
Then he probably thinks the other 90% is a bunch of embarrasiing Updyke inbreds like the rest of us think.
How are the wires?

Actually it's not. Lots of those people have died and lots of new ones have been born.
The expectations of the Bama fan base were as bad then as they are now...if anything its probably worse....Saban has three bad years in a row and see what happens

After reading the Clay Travis article and the Bama Nation's responses, I wonder if Saban is ever embarrassed or fearful of his own fan-base. I have to imagine that he has had some uncomfortable encounters.
This is the major misconception of Tuscaloosa and the Alabama fanbase. The entire area around where Saban lives is really nice and quiet and away from the "riff raff" in the rougher parts of town. My father moved into a really nice neighborhood about a mile away from Crown Ridge and with the shopping center out there you really don't have to leave the area. He probably only has any contact with the fanbase at large during Fan Day, SEC Media Days, and the Regions Classic golf tournament. Outside of that, he meets with REC members at a couple of REC functions at the Zone and friends he has in Tuscaloosa. In other words, very little contact with the typical sidewalk fans. Regardless, he seems more comfortable where he is than anywhere else he's ever been.

Not in the real world lil fella. I make sure when I talk to people here in Miami, especially professionals, that they realize AU is nothing like UA. Try to distance myself as far as possible from the mouthbreathing Updyke hoard.
You keep thinking it is anything other than an embarrassment for AU to be associated with UA in most cases if you want though.

Saban is Old Testament God, and the fans are the Babylonians. We all know how this ends. They smitin' errbody out here.

I am sure this is true and definitely a plus for Saban. Like I said, 10% of the fanbase are awesome fans and great people. The other 90% not so much.

Those same percentages apply to Auburn fans, pal.

I rarely get surprised by something inane that TnM says, but this one got me. LMFAO!

People outside the Southeast (and this includes Miami, because culturally it is well outside the Southeast) only know both schools through their football teams. If you think either Alabama or auburn is seen differently from each other outside the region where they are familiar, you are laughably delusional.

And I wonder how that bastion of your program, one Patrick Fain Dye, is perceived nationally? Do people in Miami even know where Auburn is?

I hear Roll Tide all the time in Philadelphia, Chicago. Everyone loves Bama fans. People aren't sure where Auburn is. South Carolina?

Maybe you don't hear War Eagle because of all the bahr/saban tattoo's you have. People know that bama fans will shank a bitch, over nothing.
