Alabama admission rate 53.1

I like it how SOME gumps still can't understand how this works.

And yeah, Alabama has lower admission standards. It is a fact.

Also a fact that an AU degree (more often than not) is worth more (because it is better) as evidenced by starting salaries and career earnings and every other measurable.

I make sure when I talk to people here in Miami, especially professionals, that they realize AU is nothing like UA.

Well, that's ironic coming from a Miamian, given that the rest of Florida loves to remind people that Miami really isn't anything like the rest of Florida.

The expectations of the Bama fan base were as bad then as they are now...if anything its probably worse....Saban has three bad years in a row and see what happens

The rest of the country does or should feel sorry for AU for even being associated with the mouth breathers that make up the majority of the bama fanbase.

The rest of the country doesn't know where Auburn is, so I don't think you have to worry about that one.

The admission standards are virtually the same sweetie. What isn't the same is the desirability of attending either school

Its also a well know axiom that Auburn's academic rankings rise in propotion to their SEC losses.

Vanderbilt fans are the only SEC fans that should ever brag about academics. Anyone else and you just look foolish.

Yet he has remained at Alabama longer than anywhere else, including LSU, he has been and has said he will retire from there.

Of all the things you've said, this gem may be the most priceless of all.

It is a FACT that an au degree is WORTH MORE - this is already contradictory and particularly ironic given the subject of auburn being academically "superior"

(because it is better) - another part of your "fact"

as evidenced by starting salaries and career earnings and every other measurable. - the closest thing to a FACT that you posted...yet it still assumes that the value of a degree is entirely measured by the amount of money you earn after obtaining it.

Your very existence is a contradiction to your argument. You are a fool of the highest order.

Never yield, Son.

Since you probably have no clue why I'm laughing at your first statement, you should probably read up on the Fact/Value distinction by David Hume. A statement of value can never be a "fact".

I mean, they are. Auburn is basically Alabama A&M. That would be the most appropriate name for them, but it's already taken by a HBCU.

Alabama is really profiting from playing the USNWR game. They're good at it too. I think it is probably a good idea on their part, although it isn't necessarily reflective of where the schools are at.

For example, IIRC, Auburn is harder to get into and generally provides a more valuable degree. So why would Alabama be ranked higher? Because they know what USNWR wants, and they play to it. Merit Scholars get ridiculous money to come to Bama, it is a good plan. Huge amounts of investment also gets you USNWR points, which is something Bama has definitely done over the last decade.

Perhaps the most telling example is Alabama's law school, which has insanely jumped a number of better institutions. FWIW, I think Alabama's law school is good, but it is in a state without a major law industry, and it doesn't feed top firms in other states. The clerkship numbers aren't that impressive, and the faculty doesn't come close to some of the schools it has jumped. The student body also lags in a lot of areas over schools it is presently ahead of. But again pumping money into the right places, getting high satisfaction reports from local professionals and former students, etc., earns you US News points. Alabama is shrewd, while other schools are focusing on more amorphous goals which don't translate to rankings (like diversity statistics or clinics).

To be honest, Auburn would do well to follow Bama's lead on playing to those standards. Auburn, for its academic strides over the last 2 decades, isn't getting a lot to show for it. Much less than Bama and UGA have.
