How Does A Program Implode?

I'm rewatching a little of the Alabama vs. FSU game of 2017.
It's crazy how much changed since then.
Landon Dickerson was lined up at LG for FSU.
Jimbo Fisher was head coach of the #3 Seminoles, and had budding star Deondre Francois at QB.
Since that game, the entire FSU program imploded, we never hear of Francois again, Jimbo goes to A&M, and Landon Dickerson becomes an Alabama legend.
It reminds me of Urban Meyer's implosion at Florida.
Of course there are other examples like Gene Chizik at Auburn, or Orgeron at LSU, but clearly this can even happen to great head coaches.
What causes this phenomena? Is it just a matter of having a roster full of shitty QBs?

Well in Tennessee’s case, you have a coach who gets fat and happy after winning a National title. You lose your top assistants, and fail to replace them with other quality assistants, and you become lazy on the recruiting trail, because you just expect top prospects to sign with you. That and other programs in your conference get their shite together and hire really good choices, I.e. Saban, Meyer, and Richt

Lol.
I'm mostly talking about how a program implodes while under the leadership of a great coach, but I guess this is all relevant as well.
Now that I think of it, Mack Brown at Texas is another great example of this.

That ship was sinking before he took the job. He just punched another hole in the boat.
