It is easy to blame it on coaching - and I think that may be some of it - but it felt like all season UGA was just not as physical at the LOS. Teams could move them around a bit on the DL and the OL didn't create much movement in the run game. More than coaching, it seems like roster turnover was a big culprit.

Still, you really gotta scratch your head at the adjustments in-game by UGA's staff. They move right down field when Alabama was playing odd front defenses in the opening possession. Alabama goes to an even front and more split safety, UGA really struggles to find passing lanes for large chunks of the game unless Alabama busted the responsibilities. Because they weren't hitting the explosives, they got into situations where their OL needed to move bodies in short yardage but couldn't get it done.

Additionally, I get why UGA went with the drop 7/8 coverages with 1 or 2 spies on most standard downs. Unfortunately, this didn't really pay off for them because Milroe didn't throw it to them. Also, it inadvertently allowed Alabama to squeeze the UGA offense by shortening the game. Other than the 3rd quarter, Alabama succeeded in maintaining possession.

This is the 2nd SECCG in a row where UGA really approached Alabama in a perplexing way. Remember, they elected to sit back and play coverage against Young too. He proceeded to slice and dice them up while still extending plays for some back-breaking explosives. Even before the Jamo injury, it was clear that Smart decided in the 2021 season's CFPCG that they were going down playing aggressive (more single high and in your face press coverage). I don't know why he didn't make a manhood check on his DBs and decide to challenge the Alabama OL with more diverse pressures this time.

Smart is one of the best to do it but I bet nobody in the staff meeting on Sunday was very happy.

1. Doink
2. Unforced turnover.

Ignoring the possibility of bama not converting a 4th down for 7……

Missed uga fg
Fumble led to bama fg

That’s 6 points in a 3 point game.

Didn't read.

UGA DL got pushed around.

UGA OL couldn't push anyone around after the 1st Q.

Are you suggesting that Coach Smart should have inspected the "manhood" of the DBs on the team?

If you go back and watch Bama's O Line finally got physical....they were literally throwing Georgia's D Line like rag dolls at times. Best game they have had as a unit all year!

The game ended with us running out the clock and taking a knee deep in UGA territory.

Not as good in the trenches, turned it over once without forcing any, missed a FG, and just generally never did a lot that stressed our defense after the first drive script ended. It was one of those close games where I was hardly ever nervous because it just felt like we were going to keep them at arm's length the rest of the way after it got to 17-7. UGA took major advantage of opponent mistakes all season and we just didn't make many.

100% my assessment as well. I'm surprised the game was "as close" as it was. The Bama domination on LOS should have ended in a blowout. Credit to UGA (and Bama) for keeping the final score "respectable". UGA got manhandled in the trenches.

“Deep” is inside the red zone.

Score often dictates how a final drive goes.

Who knows how that goes if uga has a 3-10 point lead.

- We scored on all our red zone trips
- Georgia went empty on one (doink)
- We didn't turn it over
- Georgia turned it over and led to 3 for us
- We got 2-3 big 3rd and short stops

Everything else was give or take pretty even. Two good teams, tough game, par for the course between the two of us since Kirby took over.

I agree. It was embarrassing. Georgia had no business losing to that Alabama team. I don't even think Alabama is all that great this season.

The bottom line is Georgia's offense let the team down. Rara Thomas didn't play and Bowers and McConkey hadn't practiced since the middle of November and were barely able to play, but that's no excuse. The defense for Georgia did enough...

TOTAL YARDS

GEORGIA – 321
ALABAMA – 306

UGA could list several situations of "bad luck" or self inflicted wounds.

Ultimately you are right.
Bama stuffed UGA on 3rd and short.

I don't really credit Bamas offense too much for the win. They did kind of what UGA fans expected.

The disappointment is in the UGA offense.
We were one of the best 3rd down conversion teams in the country. And to our credit, we had a lot of 3rd and shorts. Bama made the plays to get us off the field.
And nothing looks good offensively when you are off the field (no one gets enough touches. The entire offense doesn't get opened up. You don't get to wear down a defense for more plays later in the game).

Well that would be difficult to determine this season...

Or dropping 3 INTs that if BAMA scores on one of them, its a double digit loss.

Also, how many times did uga run that toss on 3rd and short and get 0 or less yards? I know for sure there were two.

Injuries were a factor, too. It's very difficult to win when you're two best receivers are injured.
