How did Alabama lose 50 spots in college rankings over the last 10 years?

That is a huge drop. I know that they tried to recruit students from other States for a while and promised money for highly sought scholarships, but things went down hard for them.

Not trying to create issues, but when trying to research Universities for recent High School grads, they throw up a red flag.

They used to be in the 80 range in National Universities. They were around the 200 mark at last check for high schools seniors searching for higher education.

That is not good my Tuscaloosa baws. I could see a couple of spots lost over time...but not "that" hard.

Alabama lost 20 places, then 30 places, then 20 places again in 10 years.

Trouble in education?

Honest question.

Didn't they spread concentrations among the different campuses recently? The system is probably about where it's always been, but The individual campuses may fluctuate more because of what they are concentrated on providing.

IE: Medical and sciences at UAB more so than UAT.

And yet our attendance is up to 38k, we’re building housing on campus at a breakneck pace, and will be over 40k soon.

Not seeing a problem here.

What’s your attendance at?

UAB hates Alabama. I don't really know what other institutions that are valid, or that they "own" in their rankings otherwise. I don't think that they share rankings with other Universities in Alabama. Perhaps I am wrong, though.

Overall the University has concentrated on out of state recruiting and getting high-caliber students while also bringing in out of state tuition dollars and expanding the alumni base.
The New York Times did a study on UA a few years ago. Alabama's big bases are wealthy Texas suburbs, Atlanta and believe it or not the university has had a pipeline of wealthy families from New York and New England overall sending their kids to Alabama for almost a century.
You would soon see a kid from Jersey as you would Alabama. Over 50% of students are from out of state. Alabama puts a pretty good academic scholarship package together for students that may also have options for Ivies.
It's why Alabama has eclipsed many flagship state universities in both funding and quality of students. They're about 15 years ahead of the curve.

Certainly you can see a stark difference in the burgeoning campus of Alabama and Auburn. Auburn is what Alabama looked like 30 years ago.
Alabama nearly doubled in size just with the Bryce land purchase.

It’s behind the preposition. Thank you for proving the point of the thread.

Bama has been giving a lot of scholarships, etc and recruiting second-tier students from Louisiana for at least five years. They have made it pretty much the same cost to attend Bama as to go in-state to LSU with the LA Tops program.

Has nothing to do with my point.

Who are you searching colleges for?

Because that is not what I said.

What criteria are the colleges being ranked on?

Different campuses of a system will be ranked individually.

There are some rankings that rank the systems as a whole, but those aren't usually rankings that are posted.

You are wrong.

But again: what criteria are the rankings you are searching using?

At a School that does not end a sentence at "at"...and hasn't dropped substantially in educational standards by 70 spots, nationally, in 10 short years.

Most Universities only fluctuate 5 spots a year.

Just wondering.

Also, the Alabama Law School is ranked in the top 25 in the nation.

Culverhouse is pretty high too in business school rankings as well as the school of communications.

And with the Shelby Taj Mahal, engineering is closing the gap quickly.

You "don't see a problem".

Interesting.

Sounds like a failed prep school...that didn't work out.

Why fail in every single educational ranking while charging more money?

Bad idea.

You over-promote yourselves like an on-line diploma company that only wants thousands and thousands of new accounts each year.

Stop it. Get your dignity back as a University.

Thank you! I wanted to say that, but I knew what I was likely to deal with in this thread.

As a UA grad myself, I couldn't care less how well academics are doing there. All that matters to me is the product the university puts on the field on Saturdays.

These rankings mean nothing and they were either over rated before or underrated now

But you dropped 80 places.

Why?

I think that you romanticize your law school too much.

Your people bring it up as a defensive mechanism while never actually knowing anyone on Earth that graduated from Alabama Law...ever.

It seems weak to diminish other people's education at your University while screaming about "muh law department."

There are areas of other learning(s) that combine into a thing called a "University" that don't drop 80 places as a school in a very short time-frame with very simple rankings. Talk about your Med-School... please.

You don't own that one either.

There is a reason for "the drop", I assure you.

You did this to yourselves.

If you want to get grammatical, “attendance” would not be behind the preposition. The relative pronoun “what” should be.
