He was famously at Florida for only 3 years because Spurrier gave him the cold shoulder when he was hired after Emmitt’s junior year. Emmitt has held a grudge ever since.

It may be in the past now, but when Spurrier came to Dallas with the Redskins it wasn’t. Emmitt reveled in the Cowboys win over the head ball coach.

Emmitt was great and didn’t get much credit because the team sucked and we had no passing game to help him out. The defense wasn’t great either.

I always thought it was funny that Emmitt Smith visited Auburn twice as many times as Florida during his recruitment, omitted Florida from his Hall of Fame speech, and admitted his second choice was Auburn. His mother also got a nice job and moved to Gainesville when he was in college. I also don’t think Emmitt Smith was too fond of the hate mail he received from fans after leaving Florida before his senior season.

Wasn't some of his time /signing under Charlie Pell, the outlaw? Was Smith ever tied to any of that mess?

he came after Pell was let go. Galen Hall recruited him. Pell’s stuff happened in the early 80’s.

He played on a great Cowboys team with a great oline and ran out of bounds a lot. Overrated.

His mother never moved to Gainesville and he never got any hate mail. If you are inferring that we bought Emmitt, I really don’t have any idea, but I do know that we had just come off some serious probation for recruiting violations and our recruiting coordinator was from Auburn and our head coach was from Alabama.

So if you want to have a pissing contest over who cheats the most I am happy to oblige.

I recall him being not really bitter but just pragmatic.

He did an interview where he said he had been through three offensive schemes in three years and Spurrier had made his name through a passing scheme. He was a near lock as a 1st round pick so he didn't want to roll the dice on getting hurt.
