He played on a great Cowboys team with a great oline and ran out of bounds a lot. Overrated.

I'm convinced Barry Sanders would have crushed the 20,000 yard barrier if he had been with the Cowboys instead of Emmitt.

He was misused at UF. Should have signed with AU.

Dude would probably be in the NFL HOF and maybe even won a few Super Bowls if he had

He might have had a Heisman and a NC if he had.

He was famously at Florida for only 3 years because Spurrier gave him the cold shoulder when he was hired after Emmitt’s junior year. Emmitt has held a grudge ever since.

What seems odd to me is that Errict Rhett had 845 yards rushing in 1990 which would have been Emmitt's senior year. E.R. went on to break Emmitt's total yards record. The carries where there.

The beginning of the Spurrier era in Gainesville simply wouldn't have been the same without Rhett. Rhett helped ease the transition after Emmitt Smith left school early, rushing for 845 yards as a freshman in 1990.

He'd only improve on those numbers moving forward, twice topping 1,000 yards as Florida won SEC titles in 1991 and 1993. Rhett finished his career with 4,163 rushing yards, the most in school history and nearly 1,000 more than anyone not named Emmitt Smith.

I'm not sure if there was some underlying issue.

No. If I recall correctly, Sanders retired when he did explicitly because he did not want to break Walter Payton's record.

Saunders retired still not suffering any major injuries. He was still fresh. 10 years all 1,000 yards or more. He must be a miniature tank because he rarely got injured and missed any games and yet this was all with the loser lions.

From what I read he wanted to be traded but the lions said no. I guess he wanted to play on a better team but I could be wrong.

Does he ever come around? Never hear about him really. Not like the Manning’s, Spurrier or others.

Emmitt Smith may be the most boring great tailback of all time.

Average speed, not quick, not really powerful, he just had amazing vision and knew where to go for yards.

I always thought it was funny that Emmitt Smith visited Auburn twice as many times as Florida during his recruitment, omitted Florida from his Hall of Fame speech, and admitted his second choice was Auburn.

not sure if this is true - but I had heard that ES wanted to go to AU - but his Mom wouldn't let him due to the scandal with Brent Fullwood

I was young and didn’t know him until the Cowboys. He was my favorite back to watch growing up.

I always liked him, not sure what love he isn't getting.
