Yup
Mike Smith had to ride the pine behind those guys.

Cadillac was not a bust.
There is a huge difference in being a fat, lazy frick like Trent Richardson and and having your career destroyed by your head coach that not only ran you into ground but also destroyed the career of his other RB, Mike Alstott. For Gruden to laughably be the QB Guru for ESPN he sure as hell couldn't coach one up when he was HC at Tampa Bay.

That article was stupid.
These two weren't even the best backfield in Auburn history.
For god's sakes, Auburn once had William Andrews, James Brooks, and Joe Cribbs on the field at the same time.
Come on, just come on. I expect better from Auburn guys. This article is just dumb.

Geez.
Tell ya what, just pick two of Cribbs, Andrews, and Brooks and call them the best duo.
Now:
quote:
Bo Jackson
Brent Fullwood
Tommie Aggee
Lionel James
Tim Jessie
This is more interesting. No doubt Bo Jackson is the best player of all the Auburn backs, at the college or pro level.
But to an outider, none of the other names hold a candle to the trio I think is the best.
I remember Fullwood and Agee pretty well, James is a familiar name, don't really remember Jessie.
But even though I believe Bo was the best back from Auburn ever, arguably when you consider longevity Brooks, Andrews, and Cribbs all had better pro careers (particularly Brooks and ANdrews).

Then it lasted longer than anyone could have imagined. In peak form, there was nothing quite like The Ronnie and Cadillac Show.
Agreed. Tuberville utilized both of them perfectly. They made me nervous when LSU played them. But I enjoyed watching them when they weren't playing LSU.

Who was the greatest duo that also won at least one national title?

Seriously Cribbs, Brooks, and Andrews may be the greatest RB trio in the history of college football for those who don't remember. A modern day equivalent would like having Leonard Fornette at FB with Reggie Bush and Dexter McCluster as the wing backs.

quote:It is typical bias relative to recency of the event. Taking into context how the style of football, rules, number of games in a season, number of seasons the backfield played together, and other factors evolve over the years makes finding a GOAT generally pretty difficult, when the lists (such as this) should be considered by their era of the game. Context matters, yet it is rarely taken into account.
article was stupid
For example, it would be an easy argument for UGA to say Sinkwich and Trippi had were the best UGA backfield of all time and maybe in SEC history. And, they likely would be remembered that way if not for a pesky war
quote:
1942 totals: 1,615 yards rushing, 23 TD; 2,058 yards passing, 15 TD (2 eventual No. 1 picks)
Two future No. 1 picks, Sinkwich and Trippi led the Bulldogs to the national championship in 1942. Sinkwich won the Heisman in his senior season (the SEC’s first) with 17 rushing touchdowns while Trippi was also named as an All-American. The two players also combined for more than 2,000 passing yards that season. Trippi, who missed the 1943 and 1944 seasons while fighting in World War II, remains the only player enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with at least 1,000 yards receiving, passing and rushing to his credit.
For the last 20 yrs, the 2007 Arky backfield was the best IMO. Brown and Cadillac 2004 follows. Then, Chubb and Michel.
UA specfic, the OP Bama backfield is third IMO behind Henry/drake (which could have been dominating with a healthy Drake) and 2010 with Ingram/TRich/Lacy.
But, opinions are like assholes. And, we certainly have a lot of each around these parts.

The stats don't really tell the story here. For people who watched the games you have to go with Arkansas. Keep in mind that during that time (and well most years it seems like) Arkansas had no pass game. Heck we basically were playing a redshirt freshman for 8 games and still won all of them despite that 'legendary' QB doing everything he could to lose the games... we ended up benching him for going 8-0. lol
If that Arkansas backfield had any kind of pass game, anything, that team would have easily won a national championship. Teams would put 9 to 10 guys in the box and we would still run over them. You don't see that in the stats.
