Bright Football Complex to be renovated

There's still more construction, and money, planned for Texas A&M football. Athletic officials are pursuing a $15 million renovation of the Bright Football Complex, which includes the A&M football locker room, training rooms, meeting rooms and coaches' offices.

The renovation is connected to, but not technically part of, the $450 million overhaul of Kyle Field.

The complex, when combined with the stadium renovation and a proposed $25 million parking garage, would push football-related construction costs to just shy of a half-a-billion dollars at $490 million.

The upgrade would mean new amenities for the players and 500 square feet of new office space, and new furniture, for the coaches. The Hagner auditorium, used for press conferences, meetings for the entire football team and to host recruits and their families, would be transformed from a classroom-style auditorium to a theater-style environment with larger chairs sporting A&M logos. The number of taping stations would be increased, as would the number of cold tubs, which are particularly popular with the players.

The locker room would get a complete remodel, with more space for players' equipment and designs to minimize visible clutter. The meeting rooms where players congregate to strategize and watch game film would also get seating and display upgrades. Technology was emphasized by Cook, who said screens and the latest gadgets would be a part of most of the individual redesigns.

The plan for the complex renovation has been approved by university administrators and will go before the A&M System Board of Regents next week. Cook said, if approved, the complex construction would be on an accelerated time line with an anticipated completion date this fall.

Great googly moogly.
It's getting to a point where the amount of money being spent borders on inconceivable.

What made A&M decide to tear down the lower levels and rebuild instead of just expanding? Where there some structural issues or something?

EKG your photo updates are awesome! Keep them coming.

As for Mizzou, our East addition is coming along very nicely. The masonry is going up on the exterior.

I honestly don't know, will, apart from the fact that that entire level--particularly the concourses, restrooms, concessions, etc--was as much in need of a complete transplant (facelift wouldn't have helped the shitstorm that was/is our beloved, old Kyle Field), as it was an expansion.

There was a sizable contingency of PTB who wanted to raze the entire stadium and start from rubble. That option was seriously considered. The only reason it didn't happen was because it would've meant relocating a year's worth of our home games to Houston's Reliant Stadium ... which would've meant bankruptcy to many businesses in College Station that do the preponderance of their business during football season.

This was/is a massive project that's been in the works/planning stages for quite awhile. Really, expansion is a misnomer; it's a new venue.

Awesome, MIZ! Even the "simplest" facade can make a huge difference, huh?
Would love to see photos.

It really boggles my mind how much they're doing to the place in a scant 2 years. Truly remarkable.

As I understand it, since they're lowing the field and wanted to bring the stands closer the original first deck (built in 1919 or so) had to be completely razed to meet code requirements. If you do any work, you have to bring the entire structure up to code I think.

Not touching the second and third deck would allow the school to not bring those seats up to certain ADA, electrical/plumbing and capacity requirements. The upper two decks are considered a separate structure or some such non-sense. The way they jam the students in there is pretty damn funny. I can remember having to stand sideways for many a game during my time there.

It appears Tulanes' new stadium is so far behind schedule, they have already decided to cancel an early home game w/ Ga Tech {paying 300k buyout fee} and will have to re-think the season opener 8/30 vs. Southeastern La.....herp/derp of an athletic dept.

Figured I'd give his a bump for bbap. UK just completed renovations to their weight room over in Nutter Fieldhouse (UK's indoor facility). The biggest installment was a new flooring surface that HPC Eric Korem talks about in the video.

we also are renovating the indoor track facility. I'm not sure how extensive the renovations were other than the track but it definitely needed it. We have a great track program, but pretty shitty track facilities. Hopefully the indoor facility will at least be on par after this renovation.
