This is not a criticism FYI....In all seriousness, what is the general feeling out there in Bama Nation when it comes to the QB situation for the bowl game and going into next season?

I have no reason to think Tua would leave, however, that kid is far too talented to sit on the bench another two years. Is there any concern at all that he may transfer?

I did not realize until I got to the office this morning how mad many of the Bama fans were about Jalen Hurts' performance Saturday. They all seem to like him personally, but every Bama fan I spoke to this morning seemed to blame the loss on his inability to throw down field. I know his relative weaknesses have been known all season, but is there actually serious thought that Tua could play a bigger role in Bama's offense during the Playoff/Bowl game(s)?

I don't want to speak for everyone - but I think at this point the general feeling is : We all love Jalen. Jalen is a warrior and has played his arse off. However, Jalen has not progressed in the passing game the way he needs to for us to have a chance to put our best offense on the field and beat elite teams with good offenses. Tua appears to have the ability to do these things. Nobody (well almost nobody) thinks that Tua should have been playing this year. Some people were convinced earlier (Huddie, Teague) than others (me and others) that Jalen hadn't progressed enough, but most of us have moved that direction at this point.

I think there will be a QB competition this offseason, and I think whoever shows Saban they can effectively throw the football with the whole playbook and make reads will be the QB. Maybe Jalen makes a big jump.......but if he doesn't, I think a change has to be made. The numbers (as you pointed out earlier this year) against good defenses, going back to last season, just aren't good enough.

It's not an easy situation but that's part of competing for titles every year.

I'm pretty sure he will play in the bowl game, but come spring practice, the job will be for the best qb, and that's nearly certain to be Tagovailoa. Hurts has had two years to improve, but he still isn't good at reading defenses before or after the snap, he doesn't see the field well and is horrible at checking down to secondary receivers, he holds the ball too long, doesn't have good touch, waits till the receiver is open, which is often too late, and even then the receiver generally has to adjust to the ball, etc. About the only thing he is really good at is running the ball. We have good running backs. We need a quarterback, and that's Tagovailoa.

Just be prepared to see a massive melt down on the rant when Bama gets in. Wisconsin isn't beating Ohio state.

Not before spring. If he doesn't win the job next year, he may very well transfer. His whole family moved from Hawaii to Tuscaloosa while being aware Hurts was a freshman. But I don't know if he'll stay, knowing he could start elsewhere.

If Bama is a sinking ship, what is LSU? The RMS Lusitania?

Interesting. I agree that sounds logical. It sucks for the kid who doesn't get the nod to be first team because both of them would be starting at about 120 other FBS schools. If either sits on the bench the majority of next season, surely that one will transfer pretty quickly. Of course this is just my own opinion, but like I said, there is too much talent for either of those guys to just sit on a bench and play mop-up duty.

What do you think will happen if Bama makes the Playoff? If Bama comes in at #4 and is matched up to play #1 Clemson in New Orleans, is Jalen still going to get all the first team work during playoff preparation, or do you think there is a chance Tua may come in early enough in the game to be a factor?

Yea I agree. I've said before and while it might be a bit easier now post-Auburn, I'm not sure how you have that conversation with Jalen. It would not be easy.

I think that Jalen would be the QB, but Saban has made risky decisions before in those games. If he doesn't think we can pass the ball effectively doing what we are doing he'll make a change. I don't know if that would be to style or personnel, but he won't just keep trying the old thing.

Hurts hasn't progressed as much as needed that is clear. The OL, WR and play calling hasn't helped as well. I am a pretty big Jalen supporter but comfortable with an open competiton come spring.

Biggest thing is we need to decide on a philosophy and stick with it. I understand taking what the D gives but you have to have something as a go-to when that is not working and we don't have that right now.

No chance he transfers right now. Maybe after spring practice, but he has a real shot of winning the position going into next season.

Given Hurts freshman success, I was surprised he went to Alabama in the first place.

edit: It wasn't just that game though. Against good defenses Hurts struggles nearly every time. It will p.off some Alabama fans but we have lost only 1 game since he's been here because of the awesome talent around him.

You have now lost 2. One last year vs Clemson and one this year vs us. I know Bama fans have problems with things like basic math, but this is taking it to the extreme.
